Motherboard mogul ASUS is ready with a new premium motherboard for the LGA-1366 platform. The P6X58 Premium breaks away from the "P6T" nomenclature the company used for its Intel X58-based motherboards, and flashed "X58" in the model name. This motherboard brings two new connectivity standards to the platform: USB 3.0 "SuperSpeed", and SATA III 6 Gbps. It uses additional controllers onboard to expand the chipset's feature-set.
The board looks similar to the P6T Deluxe series at a glance, but uses a different layout of its expansion slots, rear-panel, and connectors in general. Unlike with the P6T Deluxe, the three PCI-Express x16 are spaced-out, with the first two (blue) slots providing full x16 lane bandwidth, with the third (white) one sharing 8 lanes with the second slot (x16, x8, x8, when all three slots populated). The chipset+VRM cooler is nearly identical to the one on the P6T Deluxe. The CPU is powered by a 16-phase circuit.
The star attractions here are additional controllers that provide two SATA 6 Gbps ports, an one that provides two USB 3.0 ports on the rear-panel. The USB 3.0 ports are marked in blue, to differentiate them from the USB 2.0 ports which outnumber them. The rest of its features are standard issue for motherboards in its class: two gigabit Ethernet connections, 8-channel audio, six SATA II ports, 6 DDR3 DIMM slots, and overclocker-friendly features. The source revealed no information on its availability.

no ESATA?
wait they didnt have those at every x58 mobo:confused:
by: mtosevMaybe they'll bundle an eSATA bracket. Otherwise the package lost a useful component.
no ESATA?
by: btarunrWell, there is a secondary option of having a case that has an E-SATA plug-in. But I wouldn't see that being reasonable seeing as though USB 3.0 is faster than that. Right?

by: happitaTheoretical max for USB 3.0 is 4.8 Gbps, that of SATA III is 6 Gbps.

My mistake, I was associating E-SATA with SATA II. Didn't know it could support all SATA standards that can be external.
Looks hawt. I like it. mATX version please :)
I seriously thought I was looking at a GigaByte board there for a second...
Sound layout, glad to see the absence of a floppy connector. Hope the EIDE one and the PS/2s will follow soon.

Wow, USB 3.0 support and Sata III but freakin IDE and PS2 connectors :wtf:
I don't like the name other than that its cool.
No floppy connector. :P Bout time.
For me, not as enticing as the P6T7, which has a single PS/2 port and no IDE/floppy.
by: MistralYeah same here i'm glad they are removing the floppy connection. Although people like me still use IDE as all my SATA ports are already taken. Plus DVD's ar no fater on a sata connection anyways.

EDIT i found the buttons lol.
When USB 3.0 gets utilized by actual Products, instead of simply being a standard, I'll look into this.
Meh, My 680i board is still future proof.;)
by: CDdude55Try overclocking that Quad.

SATA III yet they still can't manage latching sockets for the 6 main ports? :(
by: Weer:laugh: Good point.
Try overclocking that Quad.
Luckily i don't OC.
Why only 6 expansion slots? Why are so many board makers ripping us off of that 7th slot?

USB 2.0 could put out 480Mb, but in reality it was 30MB/s. USB 3.0 can do 4.8Gb, so IMO its likely to match sata II at 300MB/s
Interesting, USB 3.0 is going to be the same on the 'motherboard' end of the cable, but different on the device end (see previous pics/threads for images)
by: MusselsWhat do you mean? USB 3.0 is backwards compatible with USB 2.0.

Which is unfortunate, I believe, because I dislike the USB 2.0 interface. Because you have to slide it in on a specific side, inside of just being able to pop it in either way, which would be so much less irritating.
by: WeerIf you look at pictures of the cable, the other end of USB 3.0 cables is different.

YADRMFA is all i can say. How about some new designs Asus, also what about some quality assurance for your older products (P6T anyone???)
by: CDdude55You make no sense... :nutkick:

by: MusselsIt still only goes in on one side..
If you look at pictures of the cable, the other end of USB 3.0 cables is different.
