I have a hard time keeping the card stable @1000/1250.
Something is overheating somewhere.

100%, but the card still crashes in Furmark.
Its wierd, the card crash within 30s as soon as it reaches 65C.

Hey guys in GPUZ the sensor readings for GPU 2 and 3 those are the voltage regulators correct? Also can someone run a stress test on a 5000 card using occt and tell me your temps at 850/250 using gpuz. Please set the fan to a reasonable noise level.

Nope, GPU-Z actually says VDDC phase 1~4

well after about 65 minutes of occt the heat does start to build and my card hits 70c but thats still very good. I cannot believe how hot the back of this card gets with occt maxing the gpu out try it and see.

I'm not seeing that at all. Must be the difference from 5870 to 5850

The 5850 is still new, I will wait for a while and hope GPU-Z will read it someday.

Edit: Did a stress test with Furmark.

Quick question on these 5xxx cards, do the temps get lower with time as the paste / tape / epoxy / toothpaste burns in, or do they kinda come "as is" in that respect?

I replaced the GPU thermal mess with some MX-2 so I have no idea, but from my limited experience with the thermal mess its looks like they come "as is".

zub after you run your gpu test how hot is the back side of your card is it hot, like burn your fingers hot say after 40 minutes.

Hey Zabusa I just had a thought, you said the card was somewhat unstable at 1000mhz, try backing your memory down to 1200 and going again, I'm certain the core isn't skipping a beat and my memory is causing all my issues when oc'd.

with any luck you can get 1000+ mhz at < 1.3v too

Yup...
Whats worst is the card does perfectly fine at 985Mhz....
It just won't do 1Ghz period.

Anything higher than 995 seems to be instant crash no matter what voltage.

i know it might sound crazy, but have you tried over 1000mhz? for instance maybe 1010mhz?

in any case my card flies @ 900/1200 and idles chilly (stock voltage/catalyst settings)

Okay tried furmarks and my card never goes over 57c so it appears occt stresses more. Try this boys and watch your temps scream. http://www.ocbase.com/perestroika_en/

Just occurred to me if you're lucky enough to get your 5850 up to around 1000 Mhz I believe it will trade blows with a 295 GTX. Considering that's using the stock cooler and the cards have a $200 price difference that's pretty impressive.

I used to own a GTX295, however it was on a system powered by a Q6600 @ 3.6ghz, even so, at stock speed the 5870 is a better gaming card on my i7 rig IMO.

in this case my system could be playing a decently large factor, when you compare 65nm Q6600 @ 3.6ghz to 45nm i7 @ 4.2ghz.

Apples to apples my GTX260's in SLi OC seem to be a touch faster, but so far I prefer the 5870 anyway, less dips (very few before anyway)

Whats the difference between 59 and 60?

I think it's actually 59.993 Hz. It's the same thing as 29i or 30i Hz.. but both work on my old CRT TV when I output via S-video or composite. It's because 29i is actually 29.997 Hz or something like that. I guess that 30 Hz is exactly 30.000Hz and 60 exactly 60.000Hz, which is stupid anyways..

How did you find this out? By wits, coincidence, or was it announced?

Lips look a bit similar, so do the eyebrows, but the nose is actually bigger in the render and the eyes are 1000x uglier!

the RV770(without research,PCB,cooler,VRAM,power phase and so on) costs about 50$.Since 40nm is a bit more costly per waffer and the die is bigger (256->338) it should be 80-85$.Also this is in 100% yield situation

actually since Hynx made a 1.35V GDDR5 (1750)7000 module,and current stepping clocking module I dough AMD will use those conservative numbers
