so what u guys think?

maybe save up and wait for the mid range of 400 series of Nvidia cards?

Im not really interested in buying a 5770 even though it can be similar to a 260.

because its 128 bit and the speed is not consistant. in some games its close to a 260, and in some games it can be faster by 2 or 3 fps and in some games 260 is faster by 8 or 10 fps.

the results are confusing.

just save up longer for a 5850, or get a second hand card from someone on forum like i did.

yeah. i can only buy in the price range of $270 to $350 or maybe $400.

but i have to save up.

gts 260 is $304

ati 5770 is $270

ati 5830 is $429

ati 5850 is $508

nvidia 275 is $450

when the prices of the 5850 will come down?

i dont want to buy something that is more of the same. when i got my gts 250 it was very similar to 4850.

i dont want to make the same mistake again. since 5770 can be similar to 260 just like 4850 vs gts 250.

Please fill out your system specs.

How about another 250??? SLI???

Just stay away from the 5830

Here is another good suggestion.

Again what board are you running with which power supply? Would SLI be a possibility?

a cheapest 5850 is $498. maybe save up for that????

Nothing wrong with a 5830 it is just a 5770 with a wider bus and 200 more shaders. It can be very powerful when oced just buy a Asus version with voltage control.

the problem with the 5830 is its price to performance and performance per watt... they just suck compared to the 5770 and 5850

IMO, not worth the bother to jump from a heavily stable clocked GTS250. Not enough percentage of increase to warrant the money. I say go at least 5850 or nothing at all.

Bingo. An HD 5770 or GTX 260, while better, isn't going to give you that "OMG" feeling you should get when upgrading a video card (from an OC'd GTS 250). The HD 5850 would.

yeah. probably save up for a 5850. maybe 5830???

how well i can overclock a 5830? can it reach or close to the performance of a 5850???

also my gts 250 is heavily overclocked. 810mhz core, 1950mhz shader and 1380mhz memory.

so how many fps i should gain if i upgrade to a 260 or 5770? or 5830???

not 5850 performance levels but 4890 with dx 11 or 285 gtx levels.

Well an easy way to tell is look at a review of a 5770 thats overclocked and add about 8 percent more performance for a 5830 when it is maxed oced. Here is a good review with newer drivers. http://www.overclockersonline.net/news/his-hd-5830-icooler-v-turbo/6/ Here is one using newer drivers with metro benchmarks http://www.overclock3d.net/reviews/gpu_displays/his_hd5830_review/5 and in this bench when oced comes very close to a 5850. When the 5830 first came out and was reviewed it only had beta drivers, with new drivers it is alot faster.

trt740: but from that review, oc 5830 is equal or very close to 5850. so 5850 isnt that much faster than 5830....right?

No a 5830 can come close to a stock 5850 at some resolutions when max oced, but if you oced a 5850 it would destroy a 5830. It has more rops and about 400 more shader processors. If you can afford a 5850 get it but if you cannot a 5830 is a good card now that newer drivers are out. Another option is a 5770 that you can oc like crazy it can come close to a 5830s performance. For the price difference a 5770 would be the better buy, because it looks to me like there is almost a 200.00 difference from 5770 to 5830. If you do get a 5770 get the ref model because it has hynix ram that goes crazy overclocking wise. Get the one with a cooler like this SAPPHIRE 100283L Radeon HD 5770 (Juniper XT) 1GB 1... and black pcb not like this VisionTek 900300 Radeon HD 5770 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 ... The none ref models don't have voltage regulators you can control with software and won't oc as high. Plus they usde Samsung DDR5 that does oc as high as the Hynix ddr5 ( which is used on the 5970)

Well they are close and because the difference in the two is only 200 shaders (both have 256 bit bus speeds) and the 4890 is clocked higher to start with. A 5770 has the same number of shaders as a 4890 but has a smaller bus, 128bit ,against the 4890s 256 bit , however, the ddr5 makes up for that. The 5770, 5830 , 4870 and 4890 are very similar performers. The 5000 series mentioned here have DX11 and are very similar to there earlier cousins. The 5850 is a different animal and has 1400 shaders and more rops. The 5850 is much more powerful but cost more. Hope this helps good night.

how about a heavy clocked 260 gtx then?

since it has more bandwidth and rops??????

can it be faster than a 280 or 285???

Can match them with a 216 shader model but so can a 5770 when oced, as can a 5830 but they have dx11 and the 260 gtx doesn't. I wouldn't go that route. For the money the 5770 ref looks best, just get a ref model and oc the hell out of it. Here is an example of a 5770 with voltage control when oced. http://www.techreaction.net/2010/05/16/msi-radeon-hd-5770-hawk-1gb/ The 5770 can catch a 260 gtx because of the DDR5 on it verses the 260 gtx DDR3

well, i would go for the 5770 since its much cheaper. only $270.

but its 128bit bus put me off.

and i dont think its powerful enough for dx11 titles.

thats why i like to get either 5830 or maybe 5850.

they are more future proof.

but still i have to save alot to buy one. so it takes me along time.

also I want to upgrade my c2d e4500 to a quad core. and the most affordable quad core that i could find that i can afford is Core 2 Quad Q8400.

and i will not pay for it myself. My father went overseas and i told him to buy me that. since its cheaper for him.

with an overclocked q8400 to 3.00ghz or maybe higher would be a good match with a 5830?
