Ever played Halo? Imo the best FPS made this side of Perfect Dark. It's a bit dated in tech at this point though, although it is more timeless than many, it still may not be as great for someone unversed in the series.

Gunz is fun... I made it to lvl 33 after getting bored.

It gets boring around that level, but once you break the 40-50 barrier and you know what you're doing, you'll get addicted! It's too difficult for most people though, since at times I have to press over 10 keys in around a second or two. (You also have to aim while moving, and be able to hit your opponent who's moving exactly as fast as you!)

ffs I tried logging in and some fucker stole my account... level 62 or 63... fuck :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

I wonder how helpful the admins at the forum will be...

Give it up, IJJI admins are completely useless. Sorry I had to be so straightforward, but you'll never have any luck with IJJI staff.

I was quite good at the game! But I got bored of deathmatch after a while. I was really good though, I mean like 1st and 2nd most of the time.

As you guys can tell, I am a fan of Team Fortress. I used to play it a lot in QuakeWorld in 98 and then religiously when it became TFC on the Half Life engine. I got The Orange Box as soon as it was released and played TF2 for two weeks before COD4 came out, and haven't touched TF2 since for the most part. It really disappointed me with the cartoony shi+. Plus one I was pwning I'd never come down and it quit being challenging. This is why I cannot recommend TF2. If you want to play Team Fortress, get QuakeWorld and TF 2.6! Or pay $5 for TFC which is the next closest thing to the real Team Fortress experience.

Well some of us like the cartoony action....

Quake live is coming out in the near future, if I can recall correctly.

+1 for COD4, but don't forget 1 and 2

Medal of honor...choose. (airborne is nice)

Half Life 2: Why not this?

Gunz...makes me sad:(

Try signing up for battlefield heroes; even though it's beta a friend of mine says it's oodles of fun.

I know you said online play is not essential, but imo left for dead is where its at right now. If not then half life 2 orange box is a clasic, fear 1 is good and cheap as chips at the mo. fallout is amazing but not really a fps.

2 of my favorite FPS's are Half Life 2(Orange Box is the shit) and Painkiller(There is a 2 pack @ walmart that has the original and includes the newest one, Overdose). Painkiller is a kill'em all type of FPS but when it comes to the bosses you have to think on your feet.

I can actually agree on this, it's quite nice imo. And I don't really like shooters.

Same

Call of duty 4, and world at war. Both have a nice single player experience and great online.

I'd go this route too. That way you get the WW2 perspective and the modern War on Terror perspective. The graphics are great on both game and the gore is realistic for a PC game on World at War.

My personal favourite FPS:

TIMESHIFT

A great game, sucked me in even more than Crysis and to date I am on my third playthrough, play it if you haven't, you won't regret it.

Timeshift was decent, but it got boring in the later levels. Certainly worth a go through, but I wouldn't pay full price.
