Axiomtek Intros Two New Nano-ITX Motherboards

Axiomtek introduced two new x86 motherboards in the nano-ITX form-factor (half the board area as mini-ITX), which include the NANO830 and NANO831. The NANO830 is driven by Intel Atom D2550 dual-core processors clocked at 1.86 GHz, with 1 MB L2 cache and 10W TDP, while the NANO831 runs Atom N2600 single-core chip clocked at 1.60 GHz, and 3.5W TDP. Both boards use Intel NM10 chipset, which gives out two SATA 3 Gb/s ports. Both boards feature DDR3 SO-DIMM and mPCIe slots on the reverse side of the PCB. An mSATA slot decks up its obverse side. AMD Introduces New Low-Power AMD Embedded G-Series APU, Extending Platform to 2017

AMD today introduced the latest entry to the AMD Embedded G-Series processor family with the AMD Embedded G-T16R Accelerated Processing Unit (APU). The AMD G-T16R is targeted at very low power, small form factor and cost-sensitive embedded designs that require a combination of x86 compatibility and graphics. The optimized design of the AMD Embedded G-T16R sips power, with power consumption of just 2.3 wattsiv on average or 4.5 watts thermal design power (TDP).

Embedded product designers are taking to the industry's green challenge to design a broad range of next-generation applications for the industrial control, point-of-sale, medical appliance and transportation markets. For example, industrial customers can use the APU to help create greener factories based on more power-efficient factory hardware. Additionally, embedded designers can develop applications like point-of-sale order entry stations and tablets, medical bedside terminals and even solar-powered traffic control devices using the AMD G-T16R.

New AMD Embedded G-Series APUs Provide 39% Power Reduction for Fanless Designs

AMD today announced immediate availability of two new AMD Embedded G-Series APUs (Accelerated Processing Units) with thermal design power (TDP) ratings of 5.5 and 6.4 watts, up to a 39 percent power savings compared to earlier versions1. The very low power consumption and small 361mm² package is ideal for compact, fanless embedded systems like digital signage, kiosks, mobile industrial devices and many of the new emerging industry-standard small form factors such as Qseven. This is an unprecedented low-power offering for the embedded market that features one or two low-power x86 "Bobcat" CPU cores and a discreet class DirectX 11-capable GPU on a single die.

"We have seen many of our embedded customers deploy fanless systems even with our 15W TDP processors in the past. Today we take the ground-breaking AMD Fusion APU well below 7W TDP and shatter the accepted traditional threshold for across-the-board fanless enablement," said Buddy Broeker, director, Embedded Solutions, AMD. "System designers can now unleash their creativity without being constrained by heat or size issues."

Axiom Ships Audiobyte Luxury Computer Speakers

Home theater company Axiom is now shipping the Audiobyte, what the company describes as the "first" luxury speaker system designed for computers. At the core of the setup are two satellites, encased either in synthetic materials or real wood; each is capable of producing a massive 55W of power, and can handle frequencies between 100Hz and 20kHz. Unlike most computer setups, the Audiobyte's amplifier is kept separate, and includes a USB port for playing and charging iPods. Basic black, white, silver and charcoal Audiobyte kits cost $349; synthetic cherry and walnut kits cost $399, while real wood models cost $559. To boost the low-end response, shoppers can buy an optional passive subwoofer for $179, which handles frequencies between 25 and 150Hz. An external volume control knob is also said to be in production.
