Introduction

From the Thermalright website:
Since the establishment of the brand in 2001, Thermalright has been dedicated to engineering professional computer cooling solutions for more than a decade. We have set many standards in the cooling industry which are still widely implemented today, and have been the leading brand that others tend to follow and imitate. Quality and performance are the very goals Thermalright pursues. By improving product details and consumer experiences, we provide products that stand out in both quality and performance to our users.

Thermalright is a top-notch manufacturer of exceptional PC-cooling products. Offering high quality heatsinks and fans, they have become a mainstay for enthusiasts looking for traditional heatsinks and fans over all-in-one liquid coolers. They don't stop at just CPU coolers, either. Their product lineup includes CPUs, video cards, memory, mosfet, and even gaming consoles.

With the likes of the Silver Arrow SB-E, HR-22, AXP 200, and Macho series of coolers, Thermalright has something for everyone when it comes to keeping their parts cool. With options for high-end, low-profile, and even ITX friendly designs, they have a wide selection to choose from. Add to that their willingness to improve on already solid designs and it becomes rather obvious why Thermalright is as popular as they are today.

In today's review, I look at Thermalright's Macho HR-02 Rev.B, which improves upon the already popular Macho series of coolers. It uses the large TY-147 fan for good airflow and low noise and pairs it with a large offset single-tower design. With such a large surface area for heat dissipation and six Ø6 mm heatpipes, this cooler looks damn solid on paper. But let's take a closer look at the specs before we start counting those chickens that haven't even hatched yet.

Packaging and Contents

Thermalright's Macho Rev.B comes in a relative small box that measures 20.6 cm in length, 16.5 cm in width, and 20.3 cm in height. On the front are a massive image of the Macho Rev.B, Thermalright's website address, and a few badges for the awards they won over the last few years. Moving on to the left side, you will find the cooler's specifications, which are a bit sparse. Still, the important stuff has been included, such as fan speed and noise levels and socket support and dimensions. The back is a repeat of the front on a green backdrop that really stands out.

Users will find a few of the cooler's features on the right side, along with another list of badges for even more of Thermalright's various awards. The bright lime green background makes another appearance on this side as well, and the top of the box is just a black with "Macho Rev.B" prominently displayed.

Contents

While the box may be a bit small, Thermalright did go above and beyond most manufacturers by putting soft foam on all four sides of the cooler—it certainly is nice to see the Macho Rev.B so well protected.

Everything a person would need to mount the Thermalright Macho Rev.B to pretty much any modern socket is included. The universal design does away with excess parts, which keeps the install easy for first-time builders.
