Ripple Measurements

You will see the ripple levels we measured on the rails of the Maverick S 500 W in the following table. The limits are, according to the ATX specification, 120 mV (+12V) and 50 mV (5V, 3.3V, and 5VSB).

Ripple suppression was excellent with normal loads, especially for a budget PSU. We expected the platform to fail the CL1 test since the +12 V's load regulation for the same test was out of spec. However, the +12V rail wasn't the one to fail the aforementioned test as it was the 5V rail that registered close to 54 mV. As such, the Maverick S 500 W actually performed well in every test, but the CL1 test despite its Junfu caps. Yet we have no idea how long its good ripple performance will last since Chinese caps age must faster than their Japanese counterparts, which would, in turn, result in a significant performance drop.

Ripple at Full Load

You can see the AC ripple and noise the main rails registered (+12V, 5V, 3.3V, and 5VSB) in the following oscilloscope screenshots. The bigger the fluctuations on the oscilloscope's screen, the bigger the ripple/noise. We set 0.01 V/Div (each vertical division/box equals 0.01 V) as the standard for all measurements.
