Toshiba's new HG6 SSD claims the performance crown in our brand-new real-life SSD test suite. The drive is based on Toshiba's own controller paired with their own flash chips and seems to be well-optimized for consumer workloads - Toshiba's experience in the enterprise sector probably provided the foundation for that. However, performance differences in the high-end consumer segment are quite slim, which becomes apparent as all 14 drives in our test group are less than 10% apart in real-life performance. It's also interesting to see that according to our synthetic tests, the Toshiba HG6 is just an above average drive while real-life testing reveals its true potential as it is the best-in-class SSD.
I only wish Toshiba improved their marketing and product exposure as it is my impression that their drives don't seem to get the same recognition as drives by such brands as Samsung. Price-wise, the HG6 Series clocks in a bit cheaper than the previous HG5d, which makes it quite affordable if you want as much performance as possible (faster and cheaper than the Samsung 840 Pro). For those who are more focused on price/performance, the Samsung 840 EVO would be the better deal, though, but with slightly lower performance. Crucial's recent drives could be another option
