ATI R600 to reach 1000MHz

While grapic chips these days top out at 700MHz on the 90nm process, ATI is working hard on the 65nm R600. Rumour has it, that the part will run at 1000MHz or more. So I guess we cannot expect the GPUs to get any cheaper or use less power these days. It is interesting to note that manufacturers move to a smaller manufacturing process and have to go for the fastest possible speed at that level. I do not think that we will see parts much faster than 1GHz.

i predict 15,000 in 3d05 with a single r600

what happened to r580+

that would be cool. I would love to see 65 nm applied to ATI's other cards, they could make alot more money with more chips per wafer and lower prices to sell more cards. Not to mention should allow greater OC.

why cant we expect the too be cheaper, i dont see how 1000mhz makes it still the same old price

Because they have to milk as much money as they can from the high-end part. Since lower end parts sell ten times more, the high end parts have to have high profit margins to make their manufacture worthwhile...

The 580+ will be a refresh, the R600 is the DX10 compatable unified shader chip coming in a bit more.

580+ isn't much new news, but could be a 80nm/GDDR4 version of the current R580.

1GHz is fine and nice.... but when can we get the performance of a top notch card with a single slot cooler? I hope they release something x1900esque in the coming generation which is very quick, but which dosen't suck like a vaccuum in your case.
