Because there is a very large market for quiet PC's?

Don't last as long? My passive 9800 Pro is still kicking after 3+ years. As long as the cooler is able to keep the card cool enough it isn't going to affect the life of the card if it is passive or not.

They don't need to be that low... My D805 is 52C loaded with an ambient of 27C... that's low for a PD dualie...

I like my 7600GS's. I wish they came with Copper heatsinks and attached to the mem. But for no fans and SLI it works nicely...

Wow... that's crazy low, though. My CPU is 26-28 idle and case is about 20 w/watercooling +9 fans! (Ambient is 68 F in my basement). Anyway, I'm getting a fan controller to tone down my fans when i don't need them that loud because the volume is getting up there after I added the last 2 on my radiator...
Edit: btw rpg, I've been a member since May and already you've passed me up on the posts. That's pretty freakin amazing...
