$349 Windows Vista Ultimate ouch.. thats 272.153 EUR

So if you bought Windows Vista Home Basic for $199. It would cost you $99 to up grade to
Windows Vista Home Premium.. right ?

Nah, USD > Euro is often 1:1, so us Europeans get ripped off again.

I'm probibly gonna dual boot my pc one vista ultimate one xp pro. Since I get microsoft software free from my university I don't have to worry about the price thankfully, otherwise wouldn't be able to afford it.

and here goes micro$haft ripping people off again. its still $100 to get windows XP. its a few years old, it should be cheaper. XP Home should be at the most $50.

Just think... If they charged $100 for full ultimate OMG IT DOES EVERYTHING, and $30 for the basic version....

Would there be a reason to pirate it?

$30/copy for vista is... almost not worth even considering pirating!

$200... is a small fortune... :/ for us college bound citizens that are FSCKING BROKE!

at least thats how i see it :\. microsoft needs to think a little more. even if they dropped the price down to $50 just for a few days, it would sell out everywhere.

Are there any disadvantages of upgrading? I'd like to upgrade from XP Home to Vista Home Premium 64 (if 64 Home exists) would that be possible? Anything more than Home Premium doesn't seem to have features worth having at those prices.

Well Vista isn't looking as bad for me in the pre RC1 as I thought it might. It doesn't seem as good as XP yet but after its first serivce pack I might get it.

so what happens if i buy the upgrade disk and upgrade my xp to vista. then for some reason the thing crashes on me (which, lets face it, is very likely), then i have to reformat. Will the upgrade disk work or will i again have to fork out even more cash for the full version?

lol, why would you have to do that when you have the discs for both still? Actually, it should be just like previous upgrades from Windows versions - in any previous Windows versions (XP included), to make a fresh install, you simply would need to have the disc for any eligible version to upgrade from. As far as I know, you didn't ever need the product key for what you were upgrading from either. Of course, there's always the chance that they might change that for Vista and require the old product key as well.

OEM or retail license doesn't matter :)

Dells, HP's, etc come with an OEM license ;)
