William Henry Gates III still is America's richest person

William Henry Gates III or Bill Gates is America's richest man once again. With an estimated netto worth of 53 billion USD he has been on top of the list for the past years.

In June Microsoft's visionary announced his retirement from company he cofounded 31 years ago. Ray Ozzie, a former foe at Lotus, will assume some of Gates' future-seeing duties when he finally steps aside in 2008. The Harvard dropout who promised "a computer on every desk and in every home" is now focusing time and talents on tackling diseases (hepatitis B, AIDS, malaria) in Africa, boosting America's lackluster high school graduation rate and helping women abroad start small businesses. This summer bridge buddy Warren Buffett pledged $31 billion in Berkshire Hathaway stock to Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation over the next 20 years, potentially doubling foundation's endowment. Sells 20 million Microsoft shares a quarter, plows proceeds into personal investment vehicle Cascade. Today more than half of net worth invested outside Microsoft. MSFT flat over past year despite $30 billion in stock buybacks since 2004; $36 billion more planned. Company pushing beyond PCs into television set-top boxes, games, cell phones. Upcoming Windows operating system, Vista, due early 2007 after repeated delays.

Is it me or has his wealth not been increasing as much over the last few years? Maybe I just used to think he had more than he did. Sure Vista will give him a nice chunk of money to add to his pockets.

He donates a lot of money to good causes. In fact, I recall something about him donating the most money of anyone in the world. Or being in the top10 or something along those lines.

well, I'd hope so, if I had 1% of his wealth I would never have to work again, and I would still have more money than I knew what to do with. So, if he isn't helping people out, he's a dick.

Apparently when he steps down in 2008, i believe he is suposed to be donating 80% of his wealth to the Bill and Melinda foundation (there own charity), which is alot of cash. I dont see anything in the news that hes bought a F16 fighter plane or anything, i think he lives a comfortable life for him and his family.

Well after stealing Billions - that's with a "B" - from consumers every year, he should be able to contribute a few hundred million of your money and mine to a good cause or two...

Bill Gates should be in prison like any other common criminal. After all he and Microsucks have been convicted many times for violation of anti-trust laws. And one of these days they will also be prosecuted for the largest wide scale consumer fraud ever perpetrated on consumers with their flawed Windoze operating systems.

what the hell are you talking about? people willingly purchase Windows operating systems, how is it a "wide scale consumer fraud". How can they be prosecuted when people willingly give them their money?

And flaming isn't allowed on these forums, so who is the criminal here? Next time I'll report you to a mod.

in my opinion, oldschool is a pessimistic bastard and 99% of his posts express his biased opinions. quit being such an asshole, this forum isn't for flaming companies and their marketing strategies, its for discussing technology and helping eachother with such. go somewhere else if you are going to be so negative
