Microsoft extends 360 warranty

In order to equal its rivals, Microsoft has decided to extend the warranty on the Xbox 360 from a mere 90 days to a more satisfactory one year, the general standard for most electrical appliances nowadays. The company has also decided to refund the cost of any repairs done in the last twelve months, which should be done automatically over the next ten weeks.

This step comes after a petition of 3,382 signatures was submitted on Friday calling for an extension of the warranty period. Both the PS3 and Nintendo Wii come with minimum one year warrantees, with many Xbox users unhappy at the number of console failures after 90 days.

90 day warranty? there was no point paying full price if that was the case i would expect atleast one year from every CE product i buy, people by new to get atleast a one year warranty. I think its neck and nect between microsoft and sony for A-hole company of the year from a consumer point of view.

I assume it would mean that if they are refunding the repairs. Otherwise that would be a real bummer.

Yeah, I would love to get a 100 dollar refund check in the mail from MS, even though I bought mine from an individual (2 weeks after he got it)..

Ps, the 100 would go towards computer stuff.

you don't have to worry about the warrenty here in the UK, all manufacturers have to cover all electrical products for a year under UK law anyways

I know somewhere like Argos will always take it back within a year anyway, but I didn't realise that was a law.

Where did you buy it from... some places will take it back, and TBH I think M$ should take it back. The agreement is that you don't open it under the warranty period, which had ended, but now they change their side of it. I think you should chase them for this, it's only fair and if you explain your situation and hassle them enought they ought to give in.

If you get your information only from reading people whining on the internet, you will think every product, every company... you'll think everything sucks.

Well, if you consider that there are a lot less complaints about other manufacturers, even on the web, I think the point is still valid.

But back to the original topic, THIS REALLY SUCKS!!!! I just bought my 360 a month ago at Best Buy, and I paid extra for the extended warranty, just because the manufacturer's warranty was only 90 days. I wouldn't have done it if I'd have known they were going to a 1 year warranty.
