AMD announces partnership with Chinese PC manufacturer

BEIJING -- January 25, 2007 --AMD (NYSE: AMD) today announced that TCL Computer Tech. Co. Ltd., one of China's fastest-growing PC manufacturers, will offer customers a range of commercial notebooks and desktops based on high-performing, energy-efficient AMD64 processors.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core processor-based desktop systems from TCL Computer are immediately available, and AMD64-powered notebooks are expected to launch in April 2007.

This news marks an important milestone for China customers, who now have the opportunity to choose AMD processor-based solutions from the region's top seven computer manufacturers.

From the point of view that AMD should get higher profits, it could in theory lead to improved efficiency if it's invested back into the company and consumers ought to get lower prices. Ought to, not will.

Continuing on Jimmy's point: It might - the more "volume" AMD can push out, means they make more (China'a a BIG place, & huge population (potential customership))... that in turn MIGHT lead to lower prices for everybody looking to buy AMD if that goes well!
