Star Citizen is Now Available for Free Until November 30th - If You Can Download It

The free, one week-long trial for Star Citizen is now live, but something is amiss: users trying to connect to Roberts Space Industries' website in hopes of registering and downloading the game so as to see what all the funding (and fuss) is all about in a more hands-on approach are being met with a 504 Gateway Time-Out error. It seems that the company - or one of its service providers - is failing to provide enough server oomph to sustain all the users trying to get a piece of indiscriminate space flying on their hands. Provided the servers are fully restored before the end of the trial, you can access here to register, and here to download the game's executable.

This is a terrible promo - you NEED a package to play anyways, no clear directions. What a shiitshow. No thanks, I'll pass.

Really? They haven't unlocked any ships free to fly? Because they do that alot. Worth checking in-game or in the news streams.

Personally I'll pass. I have fond memories of Arena Commander & Star Marine and I'd like to keep it that way. When the actual progression curve starts, I'll be hopping in... The tease is just too great and the wait will be too long.

I recall reading All the shipyards will be having trial run periods so you can fly anything, but you have to go to a dealer for a Test-drive.

You select the package initially, but you don't have to pay for it. You seem to be able to change it at any time as well.

Don't know how it was yesterday, but as of today, in US, you need to buy a starter pack ($45). Note the mandatory "Step 2".

It says to sign up... It then gives you the game pack... Reading is important. This game probably isn't for you.

Probably not, with people like you playing it. Thanks for not being helpful.

Reality is that, even after activation, clicking on "Play Now" or "Fly now", (even from "my hangar") sends people to buy one of the $45 packs. The promo offer is hidden.
In "My Hangar", you have a notification above, called "Anniversary Free Fly". You have to click on "More Info" on that bar, not on the big "Fly Now" button. Also, if you hit "Accept and close", the offer is gone (you need to hit "Comm Link" to make it appear again).
When you click on "More Info" you get redirected here:
support.robertsspaceindustries.com/hc/en-us/articles/360012238394
And only then you can get the free package. That was all that the OP needed to post - the link.

And a last warning - the total DL is some 33 GB in size. And this Free Fly will run from November 23rd through November 30th. They are "renting" you the ships. After that, you need to pay up.

No need for hostilities. Easy Rhino is correct, if you'd followed the steps you'd be playing.

Yeah, that's why it's called a trial offer. It let's people play a bit of the game to try it out and see if it's something they'll like. It's an easy to understand concept.

I did write the actual steps needed above. Because no-one would.

And yes, eventually the game launched. And crashed quickly.

So i have never played this game. I downloaded 30+ gigs. registered.
Launched the game.
Click on Universe
There is only one button in "Space ports" section called "Station system"
"hangars" section is empty.

I click that station system and the game loads.
It starts out with my character waking up in the bed. Get out of room.
And here i'm stuck. I have no idea where to go and where to look for the ships. Completely confusing.

How do i get that free flight or whatever?

It was never supposed to be free. Singleplayer cost one price; PU(multiplayer), cost you a ship/starterpack, and they comes from 25 dollars or something like that.

You need to go the the terminalroom and request what ship you want to "spawn" :) (you'll properly have 1-3 ships to try) :)

Um, yes it was. This whole thread has been about being able to try out Star Citizen for free, which can be done if people follow the directions given.

Might be not hard, if it was possible to find these instructions. Techpowerup provided with 2 links only. The registration and the download.
I just went to robertsspaceindustries.com/star-citizen and couldn't find any king of mention of free flight. The website UI is so cluttered, its impossible to understand (for newcomer) whats what.

when i enter site, i have this menu, the top row: Games, Pledge store, Support, Spectrum, Account
The second row is "About the game", "The universe", "How to play", "Media".

"About this game": on this page some game features are listed and some 45usd pack ad is placed. No mention of free flight.
"The universe": on this page, there is news section. "Meet xian", "New united newsorg","clean shot shipping upgrade". No mention of free flight.
"how to play": small tutorial. No mention of free flight.
"Media": trailers, wallpaper. No mention of free flight.

But anyway, judging from the posts above (people trying their best to humiliate others), it does seem like this game's community is rubbish. So i'm not losing much not playing it.

I think you missed the HUGE big YELLOW button on top that had the link...
Did you press accept and close without reading it ?

People may think it was for the cookies law xD
