AnyDVD HD released

Anyone who's ever tried to watch a DVD on their computer knows that it comes with Digital Rights Management (DRM) software preventing copying onto a computer. The original AnyDVD's function was to remove said DRM's, allowing a user to enjoy a clean copy of their movie. When HD-DVD was released, things got much tougher in the DRM field. DRM's now prevent HD-DVD's from playing back on a video card that does not have HDCP codecs, force a user to watch those pesky advertisements at the beginning of the movie, and force a user to buy a fancy monitor/video card/connector just to watch a movie. AnyDVD HD allows a user freedom from all those problems. This means that any computer with an HD-DVD player, regardless of how HDCP compliant it is, can watch an HD-DVD movie. SlySoft thinks that this ingenious software is worth $80 USD, with a 21 day free trial. The Inquirer claims that it is worth every penny.

its cheaper then buying vista and a hdcp monitor ...ill take it ;)

as long as they don;t do this for blu-ray this will give hd the edge it needs, although i must admit blu-ray does have its advantage.

Oh you can bet your bum that they will do the same thing for Blu-Ray. Quite frankly, we should use both and quit griping about it. If you like HD-DVD, use it. If you like Blu-Ray, use that.

I think it would have been best if Toshiba and and Sony had teamed up like they were discussing. I think we the end users would have ended up with something better then either HD-DVD or Blu-Ray and I think they both have their uses.

This is a niffty product though, does it work on Vista?

To answer my own question:

System Requirements
IBM-compatible PC with a minimum 2 GHz Pentium-class microprocessor and 512 MB RAM
Windows 98/98SE/ME/2000/XP/XP64/VISTA/VISTA64
2 MB hard-disk space
AnyDVD HD required Windows 98 as the minimum OS for standard DVDs.
For HD decryption / ripping the minimum OS is Windows 2000 (latest SP).
PC Player software usually requires Windows XP SP2 as the minumum OS.

I am officially buying this. Gonna hop on their site to see if they offer an upgrade to purchasers of the standard version.



EDIT: WOOOOOT!!!! Only $30 for the upgrade from the standard version.

time to update my anydvd ;)

been using this for years, its the ONLY choice for DRM removal on pc, the other options have issues(stupid regon+css free sucks)

DVDDecrypter kicks ass for DVDs... HD-DVDDecrypter can't be too far off now...

and oh yeah, its free.
