AMD Phenom Gaming System Revealed

The guys over at Gizmodo got a hold of AMD's newest quad core system. The rig seems quite impressive while it also uses two ATI X2900XTs. Its not much of a review but it's still better than nothing.
We just got the chance to play around with AMD's newest quad core system, the Phenom RD790 and a pair of ATI HD2900XT graphics processors. There's a whole lot of cooling going on, thanks to John Woo's new game Stranglehold. AMD is still mum on pricing and final specs, though they did reaffirm their desire to ship this sucker in "early Q4" of this year, so like October? The system managed the Havoc physics engine with ease, jumping into sepia-toned "tequila" time and into a zoom mode that gave a bullet's eye view of the action. Lack of specs notwithstanding, the experience was mesmerizing, right up to the point where one of the bad guys in the game took a bullet in the nuts, and I actually felt his pain. Wanna see?

These things weigh 40lbs, dry. With all of my components and watercooling, mine tips the scales at 70lbs.

Wile EYou're right, cause your Dimention 3000 case and p4 are so much more 1337 than my X2 and Stacker. /sarcasm

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Mine weighs very close to 90lbs loaded.

I need to put wheels on it.

But then again, solid red oak is just too damn sexy to pass up.

But please get this back close to topic :)

Wait, there was a point to this thread? Oh yeah, I forgot about that. lol

Anyway, I really hope the Phenom is not a let down. I don't want to see what would happen to AMD if this flops.

I dont see why it should be.
In theory it should be superior to C2D, as it is TRUE dual core.

Core2 is a true dual as well. :slap: Are you thinking of quads, by chance? lol

"true" doesn't mean better in any way shape or form, really.

In technical terms its "better" because its a unified design.

Performance wise, is completely independent.

Last time i checked phenom was designed to be on par or even beat C2Ds by a small margin.....It was never designed to go up against Intels latest CPUs thus i think AMD will still be second...
I miss the Athlon x64 days...

Me thinks you need to check your sources again... Last time I checked, the current AM2 is already on par with the current C2Ds in their respective price brackets. Example, you take a stock 6000+ @ $169 USD as of July 21st and compare it to a stock E6600 @ $220 USD, both CPUs pretty much trade blows with eachother in benchmarks and real world applications but the 6000+ is at least $50 cheaper... With the new Intel price cuts about to go into effect shortly, the E6600 may or may not be much close in price to the 6000+ but that still dosen't change the fact that both CPUs are on par with eachother @ stock aka real world applications that your average user knows or cares about.

Ok, seriously, no blanket statements in this thread about anything, unless you provide links and/or reliable numbers to back up any claims.

Otherwise this thread is going to derail into the normal amd/intel banter.

I'm pretty sure he was referring to clock for clock comparisons, not so much price.

I never heard of a single AMD Cpu to go up against C2Ds ( Not talking about the best AMD with the worst C2D ). Any benchmarks to prove this ? And again we aint talking about Price / Performance ratio but pure performance.

There are benchmarks around the internet where C2Ds get above ALL AMDs, even the latest FX so yes it doesnt apply when you have proof.
