Nigerians use OLPC laptop to browse for porn

Nigerian schoolchildren have recently gotten the first batch of donated laptops from the One Laptop Per Child project (Laptop.org). Ideally, they would be using their brand new laptops to discover the world, get a head start in school, and excel in the competitive business world we live in.

So what do the Nigerian schoolchildren do? They watch all the pornography they can find all day long, and then store it on the 1GB SSD on each laptop. Nigerian officials are very upset that the OLPCs are being used to watch pornography, and in response, the developers of OLPC are putting filters in future versions of it.

Oh, wait ... I am not surprised at all. What more could you expect from African kids ?? What they need is not laptops, it's a complete change of culture and education. Can't people stop trying to "Save" Africa ? it's completely useless. Seriously, before giving them tools, they need to know how to use them. And they actually don't.

You want to rephrase that? That sounded entirely foolish.
Porn? Sexual desires?

THEY'RE TEN *******YEARS OLD! FROM NIGERIA.
What porn? What sexual desire?

Lol at whoever somehow makes a tie between pornography and sexual relations.
At least I know how to quote.

Fine. You tell me how they can surf porn without knowing what it is. Stupid, isn't it?

Sorry, back in the days before laZe scripting forums such as these, we had to user other methods. Some enthusiast habits die hard.

But thanks for resorting to cheap shots, I feel special :)

Um, why are ten year olds even surfing the web? You don't just go on the internet and SEE pornography everywhere, especially if you're supposed to be doing something educational.

I think you missed the sardonic tone of the text... hmm now that sounded foolish, haha.

10-year-olds don't deserve the privilege of using the Internet to further their understanding of the world around them?

You also just proved they do know what porn is. If you don't see pornography everywhere, they must know what they're doing.

Our children don't have AIDS, thanks.
Watching porn gives people AIDS?!?!?!?!? I would be Michael Johnson by now then... please... the children werent given AIDS by choice... the point I was trying to make is that kids everywhere have access to and can search for porn so they do it... it dosent matter if they have AIDS or not kids are going to do what they do... they need not be a certain skin color nor ethnicity...

It was a shit plan. And it failed. And I fail to see why they even need laptops.
Havnt they ever heard of good old projectors?
Have one laptop for the teacher and one projector.

Oh well, Id rather they got the laptops than some pathetic lowlife.
Eg - People who spend their entire lives on social security.

lemonadesodaWhat on earth is all this bitching about? Don't FORCE YOUR VALUES onto other people. Maybe in their country, porn is a good thing. Sex certainly isn't taboo like in Anglo-saxon countries. AIDS is rife in Africa, and any form of access to safe-sex (education?) may, actually, be beneficial.

Secondly, I hear that access to porn at an early age helps young boys grow a big johnson. Really important for young africans. What else have they got to attract women? Not education, nor money...
In response...when was the last time you saw a porn where i guy used a condom and avoided spreading bodily fluids? Well find it again and burn it because thats no fun. *edit* maybe the education there is how to NOT be bad in bed.

Personally i think this whole thing is hilarious. They make it sound like they a ton of porn...what can you do with one gig of porn? In reality just having access to the laptop is education enough. Think about a world without computers? well forget it because we're just using more and more tech. Giving these kids computers actually starts them off with the skills needed for their future. Whatever...maybe they have a great future in being pornographic webmasters.

Don't sneeze at it it pays the bill.

I never really understood this whole laptops to third world countries thing. Surely the money is better spent on books, better teaching and helping support the families involved?

Needless to say it is likely a marketing move, so that when these countries in future become economically sounder, their market becomes a profitable one. Whilst the logic is sound, the whole thing is morally dubious.
