More Information Has Been Released About Far Cry 2

Quite a bit of information has been released about the upcoming PC game Far Cry 2. It will run on a custom made engine called Dunia. Which will able to run in DirectX9 or DirextX10. Dunia is also designed with Multicore CPUs as a focus point. Which will give it the ability to handle the whole game for over fifty square kilometer with no loading screens. Everything in the game will also be totally destructible to the the point of wind blowing a leaf off of a tree.

What has been released so far.

Engine: Dunia

Over 50 square kilometers

Full free roaming, with non-linear missions

Destructible Environs

There is a day and night system.

There is a dynamic weather system that adapts to how well you are currently doing. If you're shooting everything in site, and well too, the skies will be clear and sunny, but if you start getting owned, the sky will darken and become overcast.

Weapons can take damage and begin to malfunction and wear out. It's up to the player to take care of his weapons and keep them in top condition for the journey.

Running into a tree can cause it to break and fall down, just shake, or the player to crash to the floor, all depending on the size of the tree.

Advanced and adaptive AI wear color co-ordinates from GAP with +55 heads and infinate skin shading possibilities.

AI has morale settings, insult their clothing and their moral will suffer... Okay that and the bit above about GAP isn't true, but the moral of the NPCs is a function of what is happening around them, shoot their commander and their moral gets worse, shot the man next to them and it becomes even lower.

This has made me want to buy the game, having not even played the first Far Cry.

But what are the benefits? Does it just split various functions (AI, graphics, audio, physics, etc) over cores or can the graphics thread actually be split up among multiple threads? ie are there a set amount of threads or will it benefit from more cores as well?

Read the huge spread in this month's PC Gamer.

No aliens.
No demon.
No mutants.
Not even any zombies.
No gravity or time shifting stuff.
They didn't even put in endangered species to mow down (I guess it's ok to whack some merc with a back headshot, but perish the thought that you should smoke a rhino )

Meh. Sounds like just another military shooter with a few fancy effects (like realistic spreading fire) and some sort of moral ambiguity system and morale adjustments.

I'll wait for the hands on reviews.

Sounds good, better than Crysis with it's too-easy-to-kill-all-nano-suit. I am also one of those that never really played first Far Cry, stopped playing demo when it got to the dark tunnels and first mömmö (as we call it in Finnish, compined name for mutants, aliens & stuff) came around. Don't like dark places, any game that has a key bind for flashlight can forget my money.

This sounds like Jagged Alliance =) (and that's a good thing)

This is what gaming should have been a couple years ago. Mutli Core support, running in both Flavors of DX (Read: no need for vista hoozah!) adaptive AI, the weather, etc. I think this might be the first game I "purchase" in a seriously long time.
