Gateway One Launched

Gateway announced at DigitalLife today its first all-in-one desktop computer, the Gateway One. The all-in-one PC is just as cool as Apple's iMac and Sony Vaio LT series, featuring all new sleek, elegant and stylish design. There will be three verisions of the Gateway One, two retail versions available exclusively through Best Buy, and a third through Gateway Direct. The base Best Buy model, priced at $1,299.99 USD includes an Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 processor; 2GB DDR2 memory; Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100; 320 GB SATA II hard drive, and a 1.3MP webcam. The $1,799.99 configuration includes an Intel Core 2 Duo T7250 processor; 3GB of DDR2 memory; ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 XT graphics; 500 GB SATA II hard drive and a 1.3MP webcam. That unit will also include an analog/digital TV tuner. The Gateway One model available direct from Gateway includes an Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 processor; ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2600 XT graphics; 400 GB SATA II hard drive, and the 1.3MP webcam for $1,499.99. Each of the systems also have seven USB 2.0 ports, one FireWire port, CD-R/DVD-R optical drive, wireless keyboard and mouse and built-in Wi-Fi. this just goes to show you how successful imacs are lol, since most companies are starting to build all in ones now. though i think imacs of similair specs are cheaper then this gateway.

id say that doesn't look too bad apart from the gateway label on the front but id say the Imac looks better.

I've been talking about doing this for years.. just to strike back at Apple's iMac. I even built a very crude case as a highschool shop project once.... the only thing that stopped me was a lack of funding.

To be blunt, to see other people capitalize off this pisses me off somewhat. :banghead:

While I think it's great that more all-in-one units are entering the market, I still think the iMac is the better deal, atm.

I really want to see a gaming all-in-one, with SLI or Crossfire on 2 top end mobile cards. I'd get one for the mrs.

I see where you're coming from but it's even less practical than the all-in-ones already on the market, power users/gamers need the ability to upgrade with the technology in my opinion and AIOs just don't offer it...it's bad enough with notebooks though people don't mind as much because they're so portable, the AIOs are much more stationary than a notebook but also aren't easy to upgrade

Yeah, but not all gamers are upgraders. Most consumers just buy a whole new computer when theirs is too slow. Besides, Tina doesn't like to tinker with that stuff so much. lol. But in all honesty, it wouldn't be too hard to upgrade, it's just using laptop parts after all, and you can upgrade laptops.

Also, imagine how convenient it would be for LANing.

EDIT: And WTF are you doing up at 3am? I thought your pumpkin hour was around 1AM. :roll:

and yeah...I sure as hell don't want to be up still...Cell Bio exam in the morning that's going to be a freaking monster :( I didnt keep up with the material well enough and I'm paying for it now...

Yeah, it certainly wouldn't be my main system, but it would be great for someone like Tina.

And ouch, dude. Cramming blows, but don't forget rest is important too. Cramming all that info into your head wont help a bit if you pass out during your test. lol

Most definitely for Tina, now Becca on the other hand is more than content with her onboard Radeon X200 Express haha, she's just going to roll her eyes at me when I put the X2 3800+ I'm getting from AthlonX2 in it in place of her A64 3400+ :laugh:

and believe me I won't be falling asleep, we'll only have an hour for the exam and it's all essay...I'll need every second and the adrenaline will be flowing haha

gateway sucks. they are so hardup for cash they will shamelessly rip off apple's imac. nice.
