Bill Gates to Make Important Announcement Regarding the Xbox 360 at CES 2008

Microsoft's chairman Bill Gates is set to make an "important announcement" regarding the Xbox 360 at next week's CES show in Las Vegas, reports The Seattle Times. The paper doesn't say exactly what Gates' revelation will regard at the electronic show, but it does go on to speculate that it might be the reveal of yet another Xbox 360 SKU with built-in HD-DVD playback. "In particular, Microsoft could work with Toshiba to develop a digital video recorder with a hard-drive, high-definition HD-DVD drive and Xbox gaming capabilities." says Seattle Times columnist Brier Dudley. "Microsoft could also make a splash by announcing plans to give the Xbox 360 an internal HD-DVD drive, putting it on par with Sony's PlayStation 3 that has a built-in Blu-ray drive." he also added. Built-in HD-DVD playback is the logical next step for the 360, but let's wait until next week and see what happens then.

I have been thinking about purchasing the HD DVD add on for my Xbox 360...

I don't know if it is worth my money right now. It seems very expensive.

i'm not to sure on the prices of the HD drives? how much is this add-on drive for the Xbox compared to a stand alone HD player?

I have seen them as low as $130 with the 5 free HD-DVDs (through the mail in rebate). If I had a HDTV (or my parents did, lol), I would definitely think about purchasing it. I still don't like the Blu-ray and HD-DVD split.

I think it would be good for xbox to have it built in. Only for the simple fact that most of the PS3's out there isn't even being used as a gaming device but as just a blu-ray player. So maybe this is the way xbox can shut the door on the blu-ray...

If I can buy an Xbox 360 from another company who knows how to design electronic equipment so we don't have to put up with equipment failures, i'm all for it. :toast:

okay since it is his company i think if it was something big he would announce it coz if it was something like just adding a new feature or accessory wouldnt be worth his time

it might be a new controller i heard they were thinking about motion sensing but i wouldnt want that

it could be a new hard drive or memory or ability to save to your pc

would be cool if it was a windows for xbox but highly doubtful

could be that IPTV stuff

could be a new sku with a smaller gpu or a sku with extra ram or something like the new psp to help with loading

something to do with live i think but hope its not free as i think that paying for it covers the cost of the servers ect and i dont want them to skimp on the quality to save money

could be a built in hd dvd drive but i dunno coz they said they'd never have a built in one

the addon seems fine its ultra cheap if i had a hd tv id get one there only about £90 with free movies

i dunno its only speculation

mines has never crashed or died YET

i have mine on the table next to my pc and big crappy tv so no heat hitting the wall or back of the tv stand anymore

i dont move it when a cd is in and i dust it clean regularly

if it breaks i can just send it back ive had it for just over a year know

i keep my games in there cases and ive left it on all night before nothing happend

MY FRIEND not me has a problem with the noise heat and disk tray personally i think he broke it coz it was turned up most of the time and he allways pushed the tray in he had it close to a box and said oh it never heats up like yours (bullshit) his was also loud as fuck,"oh it dosnae bother me at all i cant hear it" told him to send it away as it is clearly broke but naw he says its fixed

i think it is an excellent console in my experience with the newer skus they have been quiet as hell and slightly warm at full load im talking about the ones with the newer dvd drives and better cooling

I never had problems with my 360 (besides the games) either, just stopped having fun with the 360 game selection. I thought Gears was fun, but the multiplayer didn't keep me hooked. :toast

I've known several people who had problems with their 360s though, not counting customers who used to bring them back at Best Buy. I've said this before and I'll say it again...We had our same PS3 demo in the best buy store since launch and stayed on 24/7, never replaced it. However, and this is no lie, we replaced the 360 3 times and we always turned the 360 off everynight...Said but true. Although, I believe Microsoft is starting to bring out some better hardware, fixing these issues.
