New discovery to improve battery life

Stanford University researchers have made a discovery that could signal the arrival of laptop batteries that last more than a day on a single charge.

The researchers have found a way to use silicon nanowires to give rechargeable lithium ion batteries as much as 10 times more charge.

The new batteries were developed by assistant professor Yi Cui and colleagues at Stanford University's Department of Materials Science and Engineering.

"It's not a small improvement," Cui said. "It's a revolutionary development."

Cui has filed a patent on this technology, which will hopefully be available to end users within "several years".

It's nice to know that it's at least possible now, but the consumer still pays for the battery by the hour.

whatever happened to Hydrogen batteries??? & while where in whatever happened mode, what ever happened to the batteries that you could either piss on or piss in to recharge them????

these were all great ideas with the hydrogen obviously being more fun cuz it will explode if it comes into contact with the air. but what happened to all these these great ideas???

I know that they package and sell the piss on/in batterys in Japan.... I guess americans don't want to piss in a battery, even if it helps the enviorment lol.

Hydrogen batteries have not happened yet in cars because they are not really needed. When oil prices get less bearable (lol) im sure they will start seriously working on hydrogen powered cars beyond concept and prototype. The same may be true for the computer market, there just might not be a large enough demand by the public yet.

I've done research into hyrdrogen batteries and I've decided they're completely useless.

But this new battery sounds fantastic, so long as there's not any major nagging secrets they're not telling us. I'd be interested inot reading that patent.

well of course in several years all batterys will last that long, so what's the big whoop. I don't think that batterys in several years will only last for a couple of hours like they do now. Kinda dumb............

We dont have them here. ant the united states has not put any real funding into creating viable hydrogen powered solutions. I do not know about a global scale and I do not know about your gas situation. I do know Germany has gas prices per letter that are half of our per gallon prices (Thats really really bad if you do the conversion)
