Microsoft Updates Windows Vista SP1 and Windows XP SP3 Test Builds

Microsoft said on Thursday that it has released another updated test version of Windows Vista Service Pack 1. The company said that the new version, dubbed "Windows Vista SP1 RC Refresh 2," has been released to about 15,000 beta testers. The code is not being made available publicly, Microsoft added. The final version is still on track to be finalized this quarter. Microsoft also released "Windows XP SP3 RC Refresh 2" to beta testers on Wednesday. Windows XP SP3 Final is aiming for a release sometime in the first half of this year, but Microsoft noted: "our timing will always be based on customer feedback as a first priority."

Can we get registry entry to try these also. I put the code in for the first vista SP1 release, and after it finished installing through windows update, i got a beautiful message after reboot. Said as follows "Your installation is complete, Please reinstall Windows to validate" Sweet I know. But whatev, its a private RC, not final. Anyways I wanna give the second version a shot...anybody got a reg entry so it appears in windows update?

Agreed!! I waited 37 minutes a week ago to activate (again) my OEM copy of XP. All I needed was a activation code. Then I spoke to "Bob", who was sooooo hard to understand the 25 characters I needed. Finally got it, but was soooo pissed by the time I got off the phone....Then i had to run through 20 years of windows updates. :banghead:

That's not true, they DO have a customer service, but you must keep in mind that India is on a different time zone than us.

Last time I had to activate by phone the idiot on the other side would put me on hold for about 2 mins between every 4 characters. I guess he was multi-tasking me. That was flippin' annoying.

That can be incredibly annoying, been there done that! Even though their service is still miles away from being where it should be, I do have to say they have improved somewhat over the last 2-3 years. Which is actually really sad when ya think about what it was like back then, the hold times were staggering to say the least.

They've still got a ways to go and because of their position in the industry I'm not sure they'll ever invest enough to ever have good solid customer service. M$ has a captive audience once you've bought their goods, period.

i've had good luck... done that 2-3 times, and each time the person gave the code pretty fast/clearly.
