Apple to Update its Trademark

On February 5, 2008, Apple Inc. has filed an application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, extending the Apple trademark to cover:
toys, games and playthings, namely, handheld units for playing electronic games; handheld units for playing videogames; stand alone videogame machines; electronic games other than those adapted for use with televisions receivers only; LCD games machines, electronic educational game machines; toys, namely battery-powered computer games.
Analyst predictions and rumors point out that the extended Apple trademark may lead to the introduction of another fancy iPhone like gaming device, but none of the sources available can confirm what's the next step in Apple's camp. The original story, as well as the trademark application form can be found here.

Apple already had a game council in the 90's but it failed; I bet if they released a handheld like the PSP or DS it'll be overpriced and sell on hype rather than it's features and game support.
On the otherhand, it could be so that they can market the existing iPods as a handheld gaming devices, rather than make a new device. The iPod does has some nice games ported to it... I got over 10 games on my iPod. (note- my iPods headphone jack is shorted out, so I'm getting a Zune 80 and using the iPod on a dock with a stereo)

If they make a iGame, somthing similar to a PSP, it will be overpriced and probly have terrible game support.

Maybe...
But in the game market the business profiles are different!
Cheap high tech devices and expensive games! That's the way they are cooking!
So if Apple wants a piece from that cake they must go whit it!
