HD 2900 Series Overclocking and Feedback thread

any chance you can try and put it in another machine? or vice versa, do you have another card you can test in your machine?

any chance you can try and put it in another machine?

My sister's PC may be my option for that...but is there an issue with drivers? Will I need to uninstall anything she has on her machine?

Or can I just plug it in to see if I can get past the black screen?

I have 2 NVidia 8800s - I tried putting one in and got a black screen and a cursor. Not sure what that means. Is it drivers? Or should the machine at least get Windows to load before I get the black screen?

Oh, and any idea why the Original Message happened? Did I not pray to the right Computer God or something? All I did was move the machine from one room to the other...and it was a smooth move...no bumps, etc.

Did you check to see if the ram or anything else in the computer came unseated.

Hi, I wonder if this thread could become alive once again.

I have Radeon HD 2900 Pro 512MB 512bit and after one year I want to oc it a bit. Now it´s ticking on 874/899 @1.25V. Editing with RBE and cooling with Accelero specialized for 2900.

When I increase clocks by one 6,5MHz step it freezes after while. OMG why?! I should try it with stock memory clocks right? And modify my cooling... Why?

Core temps are very nice under load 70-73°C in Crysis. But VDDC (VRM) are pretty hot. Its about 106°C in Crysis and when runs Furmark, it went up to 130°C then crash. - I had cooler set to 81%. But when I have it on auto (modified it and it runs 69% in load) and it went up to 116 and freeze. I will use some Cu memory heatsinks on it and change fans for two Scythes SilentTyphoon 120mm.

Is that good idea? Should it help me to noticeable better cooling and higher clocks? Or any else ideas? I will appreciate any help :-)

Yeah well it does seem like the VDDC is the isse with this card and only can think of water cooling to solve that issue.

I think 120c is the max temp it should get. You could try taking if the plastic part of the AC and putting 2 120mm fans on there at higher speeds.

Ah, I don´t want to spend money on water coolig so that´s not a good way for me. Yes I will change current fans in plastic part for two fans with better airflow. But I will have to connect them to manual rpm controller. I did not find good fans with pwm. Not a big problem but I should not forget to speed´em up when playing a game :-D

Yes I think I saw somewhere, maybe on Nvidia card that there was temp limit 120°C. So I was baking my card a bit :-D I hope it will help me. I bought also good thermal compound Collaboratory Liquid Pro.

And how is called that nice game on your screen? :-)

Let me know how you go adding your own fans to it.

And the game is Company of hero's :).

Why not run your AC fans at 100% there pretty darn silent anyways. I did try adding a fan over the top of the AC fans that helped a little so i'll pretty sure that using your own fans would make a good difference. I been thinking of removing the plastic part and adding 2 120x38 fans to it.

Duffman has tried it maybe drop him a pm see what he says.

Thanks. I will surely post here my results because this is forst forum what helped me.
I red this topic a time ago when I started to oc my card and now I have made decision to write here. Because in my country (Czech republic - small country in Central Europe, cutest girls and best beer :-) is Radeon 2900 a bit rare. I mean Pro 512MB 512bit, nearly nobody has it. XT is not so rare, but nobody is overclocking it as hard as me :-D

Hah, i found PM :-) I am using only icq(qip - icq client sux) and Skype so I have to pm him via TPU pages.

And I have found one very interesting thing, but I am not really sure about it. When i have higher speed of fans i have less FPS. Strange huh? Or maybe it´s just my feeling. I have Fortron 700w so it should have enough juice

Yah, changing out that crappy fan assembly really helped with the temps. You've got a pm with the pics.

Hi, I am back and my 2900Pro is still not dead :)

I have improved cooling a bit and i have broke 900MHz with this, take a look :-)

before few days i have replaced backplate with Cu heatsinks

Now i am idling at these temps. Fans are not attached to card and set to min.

(I will have to raise clock because sometimes i get broken colors when return from game.)

Currently i am able to run 914,6/891 @ 1,275V after 10 mins in Crysis temps are: PCB 46°C Core 52°C VDDC#4 74°C pretty good i think. No artifacts or marks of unstability, but i am not able to raise clock. Tried 928 even at 1,325V and after 3 mins the screen blacks out. Any ideas where is problem? I tried adding two fans on back side but with no success. Help me, Thanks :)

What are you guys using to OC your 2900xt? I've been using rivatuner to OC my 2 sapphire 2900xt, but I can't get the clocks to stay. They OC, but then when I run a game or 3dmark it resets to 507 core and 514 mem.

There 2D clocks your talking about..

I used ATI Tool to find out the max on mine then once i knew that i flashed it with lower 2D speeds and lower volts and Higher 3D speed.

This is a very old thread..... This page alone is more than 6 months old.....

Ohh thanks that makes senses. So when I run a game and I minimize the game and look at gpu-z, its currently showing the 2d clocks? I know how to flash video cards, but how did you edit the bios to have higher 3d clocks? Did you do it by editing the hex values?

I used RBE and Winflash

RBE

Winflash

Watch out for the regs they get hot fast and even more if you increase the voltage.

I wonder why I am not able to go higher than 914MHz on core... Even at highest voltage it still falls. Few seconds of game, then crash. Card is good cooled ;-)

hi all,

i have the Sapphire Radeon HD 2900 PRO 512 MB 256-bit and i would like to OC it with ATi Tool.

my system specs are:

AMD Athlon 64 3600X2
1 GB RAM
Antec Earthwatt 430W
FoxConn WinFast 6100 M2MA-R2SH Motherboard

at this time there is no way i can upgrade, so that is not an option.

also, i could try using CCC but then i would have to buy a 6-pin to 8-pin converter for my card.

any suggestions on stable frequencies with ATi Tool?
thanks

try running an older driver 8.10 or so it often helps...............

any replies for post #555 will be very much appreciated! :)
thanks!

I'm using a 2900gt on my rig and I use ATI Tray tools to OC it. I rarely use it for gaming now since I've got a 9600gt in main rig. However, I've OC'd it to 823/1116.

Need to change the fan setting from auto to manual fan speeds past set temps.

Oh and use the furry dice from ATI tools or Furmark to test for errors.

Not sure what clocks 2900pro defaults at but I reckon you can get to the same speeds or higher as my 2900gt. Just watch the temps! (change fan speeds)

Anyone interested in a 1GB 2900 Pro? PM me.
