COD:WaW, Slow map loading time??

cant compare those to PC.... they have about high rez textures like COD1

In all honesty you can't compare the console to the PC but it's worth noting how they load though. :D

Seems about right. Quite a bit it has to load. Not just the map its self. Has alot more to do because its MP and theres alot of people in the server. Sure that makes a diffrentce also

Do you have textures on extra. That might be why because I also have it on that and the textures will be huge.

Have you tried the 4GB_Patch since you are using a 64bit OS for a 32bit game using at least 4Gigs of ram?

I doubt that is even necessary for Windows 7 as the new OS should have fixed that issue to begin with.

That was posted under the impression he was using Vista64. Please read about it as that program addresses the .exe of the game not the OS. Thanks...

Ok, now that's out the way I think I've stumbled upon something that may effect load times. In my previous video I entered a server with 36 players. It allowed me to do so in about 22 seconds. This time I entered a server that had 49 players in it. This time it took me about 25 seconds.

A few of our clan have this problem, and they have ATI AGP cards. ATI has all but admitted that there is a driver problem for some of their series as the cause. I was told over a month past to "watch the release notes" in their new driver releases but so far nada. Glad I use Nvidia.

Source?

I have never heard of that before. Did you even look at my videos? I didn't notice any abnormal load times....

Note that Spyre CLOSED the thread, so I couldn't post there but I PM'd with him and that's where I was told to watch the release notes.

Maybe it's just certain cards/drivers, both of our guys have 3000 series with latest, and exactly the same symptoms as shown in Jack4L's video.

What resolution do you play at?

Also welcome to the forums. :toast:

So, you ignored my question ;). A locked thread on AMD's forum offer little proof of a problem. Can you explain why a 22 second (or so) multi-player map load up time (found in the original post) is a problem?

22 seconds seems normal to me.

The only thing that helped speed up map loading in COD4 for me was letting Superfetch do its thing. After a while the maps take about 5 seconds to load. Only a bit longer without the RAID0 setup, but RAID0 by itself is not enough, it was still balls slow until Superfetch kicked in.

No, I thought this thread was investigating the COD:WW slow load problem; that's what landed me here via a Google search. I've been banging on this problem for months.

>A locked thread on AMD's forum offer little proof of a problem.

I need no proof that there is a problem...I've seen the problem. It's a solution I'm seeking. The fact that the ATI mod locked the thread, and that he was a terse butthead to ME when I tried to coerce more info speaks volumes...to me.

Can you explain why a 22 second (or so) multi-player map load up time (found in the original post) is a problem?

22 seconds is NOT a big problem...90+ seconds, as shown in Jack4L's video, IS a big problem when it comes to equal player opportunity. I can run around the map, have my 2 betty's planted and be setup in a prime spot long before a player with that problem gets in.

Correct, it is about investigating the problem. However, you've come here making unsubstantiated claims of video card driver problems. Which is why I asked if you looked at my video.

If you are seeking a solution then you obviously are going about it the wrong way. Your 1st response here was the accusation of some sort of driver problem. Yet, you completely ignored the OP. If you were truly looking for a solution perhaps you should have asked me or anyone else here why they are not getting 90+ second load times. However, that's not what you have done now is it...

22 seconds is NOT a problem at all as far as I can tell. However, you've clearly demonstrated that you are not here seeking a solution because you have not inquired about how you can improve load times.

Agreed...we're not looking for a solution to the same problem. And I did watch the video.
You're trying to improve normal load times, I'm seeking a solution for abnormal load times, which I obviously won't find here. No point in either of us wasting our time further...I was just passing thru...ya'll have a nice life.

Bye..

Hello i'm Jack4L from youtube video and ATI forum. Spyre reported me that the engineers investigatin the problem but no solution yet for these issue. I'm wait to say anithing on catalyst 9.5 release notes on known issues paragraph but no.

I talk to others players have ATI on servers but anyone have the same problem, all with his radeon series HD3XXX HD4XXX, only one user that have 4870X2 no have this problem he use catalyst 8.2, i try it and one more time slow loading

I'm from Spain, forums in spanish i discuss this issue with another ATI user and the same problem apears.

I try to load the game on SM2.0 with no results.

Bye!

I can tell you this in a very unscientific way - when I switched from my GTX 260 to my 4890 the load times seemed to double. I thought it had something to do with a WaW patch, never occurred to me it could be teh vid card.

Aren't MP maps loaded up from your local drive only? They don't come from the server at all, only the map that is being played? That is why my RAID 0 VR setup would always get me into the maps before anyone else - not the case any more.

I think I'll slap my 8800GTS back into the rig and test this out.

I do it with my brother's 8800GTS 512MB....load time less than 7sec :(

Probably for two causes:
1º game problem with ATI library dll
2º Catalyst problem

Defrag, raid ,slow processor, low amount memory forget it, it's one of this two causes.

I have a clan friend whit Athlon64 3000+ 2Gigs of ram and nvidia 8600GT...he load on 10 sec or less...

Same problem as Jack4l

I am the other guy on the ATI thread. After the thread was closed I started a new and a little less polite thread which was closed and removed. I have installed the new Catalyst driver to no avail. I called in a support case and the guy treated me like an idiot, which is bothersome since I have been in the computer field for over 14 years. They collected a ton of info from me and did absolutely nothing. They even told me that if others are having the same problem it is irrelevant. Nice huh? I have updated every driver and my bios, heck I even changed monitors. Nothing helps. I have 2 sets of RAID0 drives and the game loads from my solid state drives so you cant get much faster. Here are my specs:
AMD Phenom X4940
2X HD3870 Crossfire
8G RAM
Vista 64
2X 80G sata RAID0 (OS)
2X 32G SSD RAID0 (games)
By default the game loads all the maps from the users folder (on the OS drive) In an attempt to speed things up I symlinked the AppData directory to my SSD drives.
Observations:
During loading my CPU never goes above 35%
My RAM never goes below 5G free
My 1st GPU goes to about 10% until map is fully loaded the stick at 99%
My second GPU is never touched
Network utlilization is very minimal
I have run this from behind 4 different gateways - Linksys, Belkin (2 of them), and even a very high end Citrix NetScaler. All with same result
I have run it from behind 2 different modems (I have 2 internet connections for my job)
Hard drives are defragged including page file
I have played with just about any setting possible in game and in Catalyst

My friends with MUCH MUCH slower machines load in 1/4 of the time it takes me

Anyone have any ideas???
Let me know if you want more info

Vasha

So my ATI card fails?

I get close to 30 secs loading time, in COD4 i had a load time of 3-5 seconds. I have my textures to extra on both. On the 360 beta codwaw loaded in a little less than 10 secs.
