I've noticed a lot of people are starting to use a avatar of the female gender that is has very little if any clothing at all.

Now me, being a guy, I can appreciate the female in many ways, but I come here to ready and be part of a tech community. Not a porno community.

Personally, I think this should be against the forum rules, as it makes me a bit uncomfortable when I am at home with my family, I never know if the op's avatar will be skanky or if it will clean and tech related.

Some of you may not agree, but what about the younger people who come on here that are younger and wanting to learn early? Maybe they are 10, 13, 16, 55, I don't know but I think this community degrades itself when using this type of content.

I hope I can get some feedback and we can get this resolved as this makes me want to leave tpu

I agree. I sometimes view the forums with my kids around, and they do not need to see that.

I do NOT need my three-year-old asking me about it. It's specifically situations like this, where questionable content is on what would appear to be a "safe" website, that has me "protecting" my kids from any web access at all.

But I'll say this, freaksavior, if you see something questionable, report it.

God forbid you take a stroll down the beach.

Everything I've seen on this forum in avaters has been work safe, I see no problems at all.

If I could see the same things my at my local park in the summer what's the big deal as someone having an avater depicting the same.

@ Cad, you may not need to explain to your kids, but you're going to have to at some point, like I stated you can see the same things on tv or even in your local highstreet at certain times of year.

I do 99% of the time.

Yes but that is expected at the beach.

This is only my opinion, you do not have to agree, but I feel the forum should consider this as part of the rules.

I could walk down the street and see someone get murdered, too, but I'm not gonna let my kids see that either. Just because it's viewable somewhere else, doesn't make it OK here.

Shall I change my avatar to a pic of a mangled body after a car accident, because you can see that elsewhere too?

Having a girl as avatar or signature is, first of all pretty stupid, but there are some avatars that are not sexy, and are also absolutly stupid.

And then you have those that make you thing 'WTF' about a forum member...

So I would just disable all avatars, signatures, etc. Too much stupidity in all.

Ah yes, the disable avatars option.

I have no issues with girl in "reaasonable" bikinis..what I have issues with the the asses in thongs, and nothing else in the pic.

Comparing something that is lawful to something that is not?

Someone could lawfully stroll around in a bikini on the street, would you cover your childs eyes for that? Or would you maybe take the time to think " my kid has no idea that that is sexy" and just walk on by.

@ Freaksaviour, I know dude but post your opinion publically ( in a forum no less) and expect others to state their opinions : ]

I do not allow my kids to watch TV without supervision, and also have the TV boxes that they can use programmed to allow only specific channels, that feature only PG-rated content. Even the channel guide shows only the channels I have chosen for them. AS far as they know, we have a whole 3 channels. I keep the "unlocked" box in my bedroom.

I don't watch TV, myself. I'll pick up a book, first(as do my kids, I'm actually quite proud that they all read, except my youngest, for about an hour a day).

Movies...just the same, I watch them all before letting my kids watch them.

Once you have kids, and see how small things can have a huge influence on thier behavior, you tend to either do something about it, or do nothing at all. Myself, I'm a pro-active parent.

And car accidents, while sometimes the result of illegal driving, sometimes do not involve the law at all...it's called snow and ice.

Oh ,and Panther, it is NOT legal here for a girl to walk around in a thong. It's called public indecency. We do have parks for things like sunbathing, and even these are tightly regulated, with guards that patrol them looking for people doing things they should not, like drinking, drugs, etc, in a public place.

I agree with this, I've already had my son tell my wife that I was "looking at naughty things on the computer". To this day I don't know what I was looking at at the time, but he meant boobies. Could have been a banner ad for breast enlargement, who knows.

As panther said, it is public and it is opinion, I know, that is why I posted it ;)

Also you misspelled my user name ;) just sayin'

given the nature, it's difficult to create a rule with exact wording. rather handle it on a case by case basis. report avatars you think are offensive.

you have my full support on that

Alright, who's going to report W1zz's avvy for having a penis-shaped nose?

Your an adult, even if you were why does it matter

@ Cad, I guess people over here are not so fussed about nudity, it's to natural IMO ( and many other peoples opinions it seems) Hell women can legally walk around with no top on over here : ] No one does it really due to social reasons  but the point is you could.

And Cad I may not have kids, but have parents and was not hidden away from breasts and boobs and the shape of the human body.

How ever if some people were getting intimate then I would get my eyes shielded.

I actually think allowing a child to become used to how people look will help them out in their teen years, certainly did me : ]

Not trying to call out or anything Cad, just want to share the other side if you will, got enough respect for you :toast:

But at the end of the days, tits are mamary glands, men and women have them how they're only sexual when sexy thoughts are added to the mix.

Alright, who's going to report W1zz's avvy for having a penis-shaped nose?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Now how your mind connected the two..well...have a seat in my chair, get comfortable, seems like we have some issues to discuss.(I was a psych major):wtf:

Panther, I get where you are coming from. Like I said, I am proactive. NOT PROTECTIVE. I don't shield them from things...I hold thier hand as they experience them. There is a time and a place for everything, and if my whole city of 1.3mil people has a law saying it's not legal in public, then the majority rules. This is a tech forum, so most of the content should be centered on that tech...there's "general nonsense" for the rest of whatever you may like.

There is a difference between provocative nudity, and nudity. The fine line that seperates this is kinda like what seperates art from garbage..everyone's interpretation of where that line lays is going to be different. The avatars with thongs border on the pornographic line, while a sculpture in stone definately does not...get where I'm headed now?...it's not the nudity, or lack of clothing..it's how it's presented.

And no, I respect your opinion, so I do not take any offense to your comments whatsoever. We are both explaining our opinions, and there's nothing wrong with that.

My son's at that age now where his mind's like a sponge, if he thinks it's ok for Dad to look at tits at home on the computer, he might think it's ok to look at/talk about his teacher's tits at nursery. It does matter a lot really now he's 4, he's drawn tits on his magna-doodle and everything lol

Seems we both have kids at the impressionable age, scammy. No wonder our opinions are quite close to each other.

"In 1991, Gwen Jacob was arrested for walking in a street in Guelph, Ontario while topless. She was acquitted in 1996 by the Ontario Court of Appeal on the basis that the act of being topless is not in itself a sexual act or indecent.[42] Since then, the court ruling has been tested and upheld several times."

You sure about that law Cad by the way?

By the way guys with impressionable children, if you are still raising them well you don't have to worry about them looking at bossoms or things like that. Unless your actively encouraging the behaviour it's just not going to happen if you teach them the right way to act, what is wrong and right. I.E tell them it's wrong, teach them it! interact your kids XD If you a good person you're child is likely to copy that goodness( the only kids I remember doing such things had no father figure or had a father figure who was in no way a role model in regards to interaction with women)

And I've no doubts of you two being able to do that, your epic dudes!

Interesting thread by the way.

Planning on being a teacher by the way chaps, with a few specialities child mental development and learning disabilites in children and how to over-come them.

I've also been a learning mentor : ] ( not the same as having own kids, but I'm just saying I do have some experiance XD )

Going to chime in, I agree with Pantherx12 on this, I also think that the UK and europe in general do seem to be a lot more relaxed over sex and things which are deemed sexy, as mentioned it is natural and to make a taboo out of something natural well is just asking for trouble.

However I would not agree with nudity in avvy's as there is a time and a place, however bikini's and thongs are A OK with me.

Though I can't really talk, I have a poo for my avatar

As I've said it is an opinion. Wizard is from Germany, and it's his site, but he doesn't use a something obscure.

When you go to a car forum, what do you see? 99.99% is a car
When you go to a tech site, usually it is tech related stuff.

Again just my $0.02

Yea very close, I'm also one to let my kids experience most stuff; don't want to "wrap them in cotton wool" etc.

I was brought up in a reaaaally bad place; on a council estate full of criminals etc. A video called "attack of the brown" on youtube was filmed in my town; the fighter was a kid I grew up with on the estate. I still live in the same town, 5 minutes walk from my old estate.
Places like this build character in people. If you try and shield your child in a town like this, they will build their character outside of your supervision (including what Dad looks at on the net) That's why I'll let my kids do must stuff with me, so I help build their character at a young age ;)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

It's okay, been there, done that. Found out I was raped by Merlin in a past life

learning disabilites in children and how to over-come them

That's what I do for a living but I work with young adults; I'm a Support Worker (Young adults with learning disabilities - Challenging Behaviour) Good luck man, it's a fantastic career

Cheers dude, will have to have a chat with you about it some time.

Any advise you can give will be greatly appreciated!.

I think whole girly photos thing is nice, but since this forum is open to younger users and all...

I'd say that they might not be a good thing to have around. Plus some workplaces are very strict, and would deem them "NSFW" in many cases.

As for the whole your kid seeing thing, I can understand that. No one wants their 5 year old daughter asking about why some lady is posting that barely wears clothing. ;)
