I never played Crysis/Crysis Warhead. All I know of it is that it is an extremely demanding game, graphics wise.

But I'm very interested in playing Crysis 2, since it takes place in my home city. Do I need to play Crysis 1 to understand the story? How much more/less demanding is Crysis 2 compared to the prequel? Is it better graphics wise?

no you dont have to play crysis 1 ..

the story is different in crysis 2 :)

and crysis 2 runs much smoother and better than crysis 1

only the story of the suit wearers itself is linked between them, and the common enemy.... apart of that, it could be 2 different games... its a console port, remember;)

it would be better if you play the previous 2 titles, but you can still enjoy this game without playing them. :D

nope, nothing, just play crysis 2

i found no connection between them expect the name and nanosuit(and character names)

but play crysis 1 for the beautiful vistas

The whole Prophet theme makes a lot more sense if you`ve played the first one , but it isn`t necessary.

......because it is only half the game that Crysis 1 was with none of the physics and associated gameplay mechanics.

The OP should not just play a game cos it takes place in his home town. I mean he comes from NY, everything takes place thier (in films and games at least).

Play all of them, if Crysis demands alot of your system, install the natural mod. Honestly, I play at 2048x1536 with just an HD 5870 and all of them play smooth with high end settings.

I'm having a hard time understanding your post.
I already have Crysis 2 in my machine with a Phenom II X4 965 and a Radeon 5870. Graphics options were dumb little and seems to be running super smooth.

In order to understand Crysis 2 you need to look at the poor state the gaming industry is in... Crysis 2 has less than 500 people playing it on PC (according to steam stats) a couple of months after it has been released. Why is that?

bc it's only dx9, is a console port, so can't live up to its hype. The idea of a sequel is to improve...idk about the storyline, but the graphics definitely aren't better than the first, they're a downgrade from what i've read.

Compared with Crysis 1, Crysis 2 is complete crap.

Especially so in the graphics department. Not only were the graphics in Crysis 1 much nicer than in Crysis 2, you got destructable buildings, plants, etc as well.

Crysis 2 runs smoother than Crysis 1 because Crysis 2 is a big step back in technology compared with the first game. Considering the teaser videos released showing Cryengine3 with fully destructable environs which preceded the release of the actual game, I would say that Crysis 2 will be the biggest dissapointment in PC gaming in the whole of 2011. Sure there are worse games, but everyone thought Crysis 2 was gonna be a stormer of a game, but instead it was a complete standard fayre cliched washout.

It's pure console crud. you might get a couple of hrs of gameplay out of it on the PC. Idk, maybe it'd be more fun on a console.

The game is fun if you like it.

But the graphics are so much worse. The textures are 2x as big then in Crysis 1
It is still funny that Crysis 2 is the best looking console game, so they sill put some effort into it :P.
If Crysis 3 will be like the first games i will buy it. But im not sure about that... stupid EA ruined Crysis cause they wanted the Xbox and PS3 market.

In short??

I have the game as part of a graphics card bundle. and i will be giving it away shortly.

Wow, just wow. I remember seeing Crysis 2 being developed under the DX11 umbrella. Next thing I see, it's now DX9. Whatever the heck happened? Essentially the lacked because of console ports? What not make Crysis 2 the same, if not superior, to Crysis 1, and then downgrade it for the consoles? You know, like BioWare did with Dragon Age Origins. I knew not of this until recently. I put my Crysis 2 up expecting shit hot graphics and I get PS3 level graphics.

they said they were gonna release DX11 as part of a patch but i think theres a lot of people out there that thinks they said that just to boost game sales. if a DX11 patch does exist then that would be suprising

Like i said.... If the patch DOES exist then that would be suprising. Im not gonna hold my breath anyway as I dont actually like the game enough to play it online.

I played MP around my mates house for a few hours and every server is full of players that cloak, camp in a corner and wait for someone to run by before shooting them in the back.

there are players that dont do that however but not enough for me to say i will enjoy playing the game.

They already confirmed that they are in fact working on a DX11 patch, as it is actually something that they have been quite bugged about by the community.

I personally don't care for the MP in Crysis 2, but i would play the SP over again when the DX11 patch is out.

No, as everyone else is saying, you can play Crysis 2 on its own, as it doesn't have much connection to the first one.

Be aware that it comes with a 5 machine activation limit though. If you're comfortable with this invasive DRM, then go ahead and buy it. I boycotted it over this. The only DRM I will tolerate is Steam's account-based DRM.

I stopped playing crysis 2 half way through. I got bored.

Crysis and Warhead have some of the best GFX/phyx and environments of any game ever made....plus, these two are super slick in all aspects as they're PC exclusives, ie, heaps of options and the guns are super slick.

Based on the Crysis 2 demo, it was okay from a techno POV, but I can't see the point of playing the SP at all, not even for free, as everything went backwards.

Ppl really were waiting for a game that wouldnt be playable with even any current high end gfx card which actually would have been more positive than all the negative its getting right now for being a turncoat

people were waiting for the game crytek said they would release, a game that looks better than crysis and runs better and thats not crysis 2.

to the op, if you haven't played crysis play that instead, its pretty cheap now and still has decent gameplay really good storyline + alot of mods for it, crysis 2 though, boring gameplay, decent storyline.

crysis is better than crysis 2

as for the dumbed down graphic options, download the advanced graphics tool for crysis 2 and you will get alot more options to play with.
