Bored with gaming.

I am also bored with gaming, yay for open discussion. Now what?

Don't worry, Deus Ex: Human Revolution is out in a few weeks ;)

^ This. Very much looking forward to the upcoming new releases as I too get this way from time to time. It's partly age. Though much of the time it's guilt as opposed to boredom because Im holed up in my office playing a stupid game when I should be spending time with my gf and/or my dog. Though lately I've been reading the A Song Of Ice And Fire series and it's really great to be heavily into a book again. Can't say that's really happened since before the internet.

Why you think i ain't been on steam in 43 days, MM :)

I'm 19 and i'm bored of them, lol.

Edit, just looked; 49 days.

My spider sense tingle on that one. I think people are going to be disappointed. I hope I'm wrong.

The other side of the coin is without gaming how can I justify my expensive desktop pc? I still do like "playing" with the hardware and such as much as I ever did and it's still a major hobby (though that too can get tiresome if have to do actual troubleshooting). But without games I don't need it at all.

I don't know if its age, depression or just a shortened attention span but video games as a whole are pretty boring to me lately. Sometimes you get a gem like BC2 or New Vegas but even those wore on me pretty quick. Almost 200 hours in BC2 and I could care less about rank. Beat NV once and have no need to play it again.

To play games now almost seems like a chore. The only time I can really get into it is when a bunch of friends are playing. Other then that well.....Steam is used for its IM feature more then the games on my account.

Anyone else got into a gaming funk like this?

I feel the same way.

I used buy and play every game out there. Now I have limited myself to just 3-4 games that I know I will enjoy, and have enjoyed for nearly a decade!

Starcraft, Diablo, and Guild Wars! That's all I need for satisfy my gaming!

37 here.. I've been bored with gaming lately myself... But i hope BF3, Batman AC, and Rage get me back into it. I played brink a few times over the weekend and it was good, but only at 10 dollars or less.. I'm not going to pay more than that for it. I like BC2, but not as much as i liked Bf2 or 2142 or well any of the rest of them.

Yeah other than being outdoors with your buddies in a nice, quiet place I'll never understand the appeal of golf. I'd rather go hiking/camping for all that though.

Golfing is great. Why? Any game that starts off in a bar and the goal is to end in a bar has my vote. Really don't care about the "sport". Its more of an excuse to talk shit with your buddies, dress funny and drive a golf cart without being laughed at.

Don't say that, I have that feeling to. But I really hope im wrong. The first game was one of the best games i've ever played, period. I'm not expecting it to surpass it in any way though.
If a game is half as good as Deus Ex, that's a solid 8/10 in my book.

The reason I bring that game up though is that the original game, while quite linear, was telling a very intriguing story, so you really didn't care. You just kept playing because you wanted to uncover the truth. I get quite bored with games as well. I need games that draws me in, and keeps me interested. If only for 10 hrs. I'd trade 10 hrs of intense drama in a linear game for 10 hrs of mindless open world monster slaying any day.

Yup age is definitely a factor and it seems to kick in when most people are about 32-ish. But apart from that most of the games just dont deliver and all tend to be braindead boring clones of one another (the prevalence of the Bioware engine in RPGs is a crying tragedy as far as I am concerned). I realised this when I decided to replay Gothic 2, a ten year old game and felt the same strange sensation of being hooked on it and wanting more more more, just as i felt the first time around. Then I got the same thing with Risen (a Gothic 1 + 2 clone). But when I play, Mass Effect, CoD, Dragon Age, Crysis 2, FallOut, Borderlands, etc etc, I find myself force playing, fighting an inner restlessness and boredom that is screaming out for me to do something more rewarding.

Someone else said here that gaming has gone the same way the movie and the music industry has, where originality and creativity has gone right out the window in favour of the fastest route to profit margins. Therefore for those who know better and/or have developed more discerning tastes, it is increasingly hard to find modern entertainment media that we can even stomach, let alone enjoy.

That's why i end up playing Arma 2 a lot as has a bit or a lot of things to do that require some brain work and has to be with friends then you just need some creativity :).

Games like Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Fallout 3 i enjoyed them a lot but end up back to Arma 2 due to the amount of things that are available to you.

UBI needs to get of it's ass and make fuller games for example Splinter Cell Conviction great game but limited to 2 people and no modding and there was Farcry 2 not enough time and with more work could of been another great game like Ghost Recon and it's not just UBI look what happened to NWN2 what a mess that is although much better than when it was released but not a touch on NWN1..

Quake which people so love i only liked the 1st one as they lost the original touch like most games have.

Game company's need to stop limiting what there games can do but they will not due to the fact it loses them money and a lot of the younger generation don't realize what games really should be by now as for sure we differently taken many steps back in good gaming.

Although like fashion it will happen again sooner or later when great games are made again and it be back to the same old shit again.

So since OFP it's just been upgraded over and over were most games they take a different route and distroy what people liked in a game in the 1st place hence why i still not got Dragon Age 2.

Different is not always better.

Well you should give MoH a try when it goes on sale. Its only about 4 hours long but its damn good for what it is. Nothing like Deus Ex or Fallout. But for a mindless shooter its got a decent plot.

Quake 1 is rumored to have a reboot coming in the Tech 5 engine. The heavens will open if this is true.

Plus the server I was on had tons of drama and the hosting company they used sucked (singlehop) it was mad laggy (thier network sucked) and they even had the server as optimized as can be. some of the people were awesome on the MC server but one person ruined eveything. fuck!

join my minecraft server. check the clubhouse for details /shameless threadjack

Agreed. Easy runs a tight server. Unlike that Erocker server. When I go on there it reminds me of this......

That be pretty sweet as long as they keep the atmosphere of the original. Which i am not counting on as so many fail this today and i am sure no one needs a reminder on what games they are lol.

games are being churned out and 'most' are ported to the pc, we have enjoyed high end gaming on the pc for years. now they can just churn out the same stuff for the console users and its all new to them, but boring for us. i agree tho its same shit just different backdrop.

developers no longer challenge themselves i remember having to change your gfx card about every 8 months as it was moving forward so fast. unreal engine is used in so many games today. crossfire and sli are not really needed anymore and i plan to change my 2 5870's in maybe another year. there is no point as they are not stressed at all. to be honest i could proberly run all games on 1 5870.

SAD DAYS!

I agree with this 100%. The hardware is driven by the software. Game companies need to start pushing out something a lot more taxing on my system to warrant an upgrade. Currently the state of the game industry is a lot of boring garbage. Also not just pretty graphics, but real immersive game play and great graphics.

I have written off Diablo III due to always on internet and DRM. Even if I will only play it online I hate them telling me I have to be online to play. Here's hoping Grim Dawn and TorchLight II are good replacements.

Dues Ex is the next big game for me, and I also get the feeling it will be the next big disappointment, but only because I have been so disappointed with releases lately, it's a bad trend I am used to seeing.

I feel ya, and unlike what everyone else is saying this is not because of a lack of games, just a lack of interest in gaming. Not sure if its because ive been stressed and in a bad mood lately or just because I dont find games fun anymore.

I couldn't care less ;)

I feel the same at the moment. I just don't know what to play :( I even started playing through Medal Of Honour again (which is actually a really good game!)

Haven't gotten much into playing Batman: Arkham Asylum on Steam, might just continue playing that.

Bad Company 2 was crashing me back to desktop with no errors, so i stopped with that for a while. Im now reinstalling it in hopes it fixes the issue.:)

I'm still waiting for the heavy hitters, Rage, Metro: Last Light, Serious Sam 3:BFE, Half Life 2 Episode 3(im really excited for this game, hurry up Gabe!!), Saints Row The Third.
