Everything's pretty important. I like my ram, my cpu, my wc loop, power supply, keyboard etc... I think the most important part is the motherboard, especially for us overclockers. A decent board makes things go so much smoother!

Long story short the most stepped on, tripped over, accidently severed, overlooked, ignored and abused part of a computer or monitor or printer or scanner or peripheral is called a Power Cord or 3 pin shroud power connector. No Juice No Nothing!

pffft! Nowhere near as good as the Sinclair microdrives with their endless loop of tape since you could have so much fun when the tape inevitably unravelled or snapped. That Apple disc thingy couldn't pull those tricks off, now could it? ;) So inferior.

Motherboard. Hence the term motherboard.

I understand the "correct" answer is power cord. But that's too simplistic for my taste.

I have been tinkering with computers since around 1990. I have owned about three dozen computers. I have used PC's in libraries coast to coast. I must have seen at least a thousand of those 3 pin shroud power connectors. This week I found the First one that would not work! It looked brand new. No cuts, nothing loose, no scortch marks, Nothing. I have never seen a Failed 3 pin shroud power connector NOW.

Or instead of the power cord how about the power supply? Still have to plug that cord in somewhere.

The only thing I can think of that isn't vital is a stick of ram assuming you have more than 1. If any other component failed (inc power lead ;)) it would be a bad day.

I purchased an All in One Business computer right after April Fools Day. I purchased it AS-IS won't power on. Looked like a good machine for spare parts, CPU etc. I recieved the computer (mystery meat), to see if there were any usable parts ( or anything at all) inside. I plugged in the included and always trusty Power Cord and pressed the power button. Nothing but a paperweight. Opened up the machine to hunt for all the goodies inside. Hmm' no dust! In fact everything looks new! After an hour or two of troubleshooting I gave up. I ordered a replacement power supply and tried it with the same results. A few days later I decided to scrap the machine as originally intended. I was about to start removing parts when I decided to press that power button one final time. I plugged in a Different Power Cord from a nearby machine because I was too lazy to unfold the original power cord again. I pressed the power button and Eureka, It's Alive! The machine reset to factory recovery. It turns out that it is a recently refurbished (11-15-2016) business machine with all the bells and whistles. Warranty good til New Years Day 2020 Lol.

You need to tidy up more often, my cord is tucked away where it can't be stepped on, tripped over etc.
In fact I only think about it if I have to unplug it for maintenance.
