Assuming a new card is indeed imminent it's basically a statement of the obvious.

After all, Vega 64 may compete with a GTX 1080 but where I am it costs more than a GTX 1080 Ti.

pretty much what I expect to happen. It may be rumor, but it is based on the new pricing reality.

it is why I think nearly every enthusiast here will be only plying their mid-grade GPU's in the years to come.

Ok when GPUs are gonna cost near $1000 or more.... i wont see any cpu, mobo, ram monitor etc destinated to gamers selling good. Gpu prices wont kill just pc gaming but pc gaming parts ...oh boy all those peripherals in the stores

sometimes i get paranoic and think on swapping my gtx 660 ti for the time being for giving my gtx 1070 more lifespan lol

While looking at price changes on Amazon over the last couple months, I've been noticing items like ram and CPUs are dropping in price. Certain GPUs are also following the same trend. Capitalism corrects itself in a situation like this, if a segment of the consumer market won't purchase an item due to it being expensive, it will slowly adjust itself until those consumers start purchasing again. As long as the segment of consumers not making purchases is big enough and in this situation it is. I'm confident will see the prices slowly trickle down, even with those too impatient to wait for a proper price to reemerge won't stop the drop in prices because there's not enough of them to stop the change in price

Nah. The only thing likely to die if you aren’t overclocking is a fan...in 4-7 years. You can always get matching fans on eBay or from old gpu’s for parts. No worries. By then anyway, I expect we will level off.

Not sure if this is true. If they set the bar that high, AMD will destroy them on price performance ratio entirely. I can only conceive that to be a good move when Nvidia would have some info that RTG is going bust in due time.

When was that?
When ATI 4800 series launched, workhorse mid high range hd 4850 introduced at 199usd while hd 4870, definitely high end, 299usd. VGA prices were massively disrupted and stayed low a few years where high end single gpu cards costed no more than 399usd.

I just paid $840 for my 1080 Ti... it sucks but I tried console gaming, and I can not stand that blurry mess. I am fine with paying $200 over MSRP, it should last me a solid 3 years as I have a ton of older backlog games that this card will max out at 120 fps 120hz 3440 x 1440, first up is the Dragon Age and Dead Space trilogies. this card should be able to do 120hz at that rez for all 6 games... then i still have ton of backlog on top of that. so i am content :D

Hmm that's hard for me since the 4850/4870 IMO need a second card to be high end. GTX 280 was $650 MSRP

That being said I had like a dozen of those cards and 4870X2's/4850X2's they are one of my favorite series ever.

As I said, it severely disrupted the entire Nvidia lineup, GTX 280 was released before 4800 series. Days after the GTX 280 dropped like $200 in price and forced GTX 260 to be on the same price point as 4870, Nvidia also promptly released GTX 260 216sp since 4870 slightly beat the vanilla 260.

Simple, with margins so great the opportunity to shift in prices is massive, and AMD will just do what it has always done, but now has lots of wiggle room to still turn a profit. The customer then sees GPU offerings with large price gaps and much smaller performance gaps which Nvidia will have trouble explaining. Or, alternatively, Nvidia will also drop prices significantly, which hurts their brand image quite a bit (too obvious ripoffs). It has happened before.

If this is true I will have to wait a bit until things settle, if they'll ever do. I don't want to pay more than 650£ on a GTX2080, I paid 568 for my 1080 so I won't pay 750£ or more on a new card. If things are not improving in 6-8 moths I'll probably reconsider...

My HD7950 bought in 2011 was 301€, new. So yes there was a time the consumer could get the cutdown high-end entry segment card for 299~350 with top end at 450~500

7950 was decent but not high end. 7970 was the hig end, and launched at $549

We're talking flagships here, you can still get a cutdown chip for $300ish that perform "well", does not make it a flagship.

GTX 970 was $329

Don't confuse top entuisiast cards with top consumer ones please.

WCCFtech, LOL... Interesting article.

I do believe that it will be higher... $999 at most.

7950 was not high end, 7970 was the hig end, and launched at $549
7950 was like 10% slower than a 7970 and priced at $449 MSRP. How is that not high end, one card down??? Is the 1080 not high-end compared to the 1080ti??? I don't get that logic.
