What does everyone think at present the best way forward is for an upgrade?

I currently run a single EVGA 1070 SC on triple 1080P, it can sometimes struggle on the 5760 x 1080P with all the details up and dip below the 60fps that I hope to have with my current setup..

Having seen the newer cards released and the prices for them, currently for myself I'm not sure I would call them good value or warrant the extra cost (up to 100%) for the 20% extra performance in some of the games (sadly at the moment no 4k screens so difference between 1080P isn't worth it for me) but I was wondering what would people might suggest for a replacement card?

I did see 3 EVGA 1080 Ti FTW3's on Ebay for £1250 that were boxed and new but the seller cancelled the order so I'm looking to replace the void lol What might anyone suggest??

After all the reviews, I am optimistic about the RTX line. While they are expensive, they are also an improvement on the previous gen cards. For those not already on TitanXp/1080/1070 cards, the upgrade might be a tough sell. For anyone on 9xx and older it's going to be a more compelling deal. I personally am got to stick with my 1080 for a while. But if I were still on my old 770, the 2080 would be calling to me.

Raytracing is the future and it's only going to get better and more refined.

From Scan in the UK... you can get a new EVGA 1080 Ti SC for £650.. I would have honestly prefered the FTW3 card, but with the differences in game that it might matter and the extra cost for the performance and the fact I can't see them for sale at Scan anymore, I don't believe it's worth it..

I would look at mining cards but I'd prefer EVGA cards or possibly MSI, but I can't see any in bulk for sale on Ebay. I don't mind spending a little extra for brand new cards at this point in time

If you're going to upgrade from a 980 go with a 1080. You'll thank yourself later.

Just going by raw raster rendering performance, the 2080 Ti is twice as fast as my 1080, while being twice the price, so technically, it still has the same value for money as my card and is worth buying. Add in the extra features and it makes it even more compelling. But of course, I'd never actually spend £1100 for a graphics card, lol. I'd need some sort of business justification rather than just playing games. Oh and deeper pockets!

2080/ti prices are absurd; in fact I'd call them offensive.

Used 1080Ti is the best bang-for-buck if you can get hands on one for 400-500 moneys.
Prices will be out of whack for a few months. New cards... nothing has changed below 1080Ti/2080 and when prices stabilize, they'll both be at roughly same the same price.

I think it's to wait for the coming AMDs and then decide.

"Wait for Navi" has been pretty much at meme status for over a year already
There will not be a new AMD card this year. Maybe next year, maybe. So we are talking about 6 months or so at minimum for coming AMDs.

You'll find @qubit that the 2080 Ti is at least double the price, but I'm not sure its double the performance in games? (Obviously dependent on what res you game at...) and from the reviews here and the video I watched last night from Jayztwocents, I'm left feeling empty really with the cost and the performance the new cards are giving over the current top dogs..
I was hoping for a 25%+ increase from the 1080 Ti for the 2080 and again same sort of performance boost from the 2080 Ti...

That said, for £650 for a single 1080 Ti, I'm considering two to use in SLI and think happy thoughts afterwards as there's only so much more FPS I can gain from triple 1080P gaming at the moment.. The fact I'd love to get replacement monitors and have 4k 120Hz panels eventually, I can worry about another day..

@Joss I'm unsure when the new AMD cards are due, but I would bet that if I do buy the 1080 Ti's now, they would be as fast for similar money or something just because of that Murphy's law!! I'd love to say I'd hang on, but I'd probably won't...

The performance certainly is impressive on a 2080 or 2080Ti over a 980Ti (like I have), but it's not impressive enough for me to drop $800+ on a new GPU. I game across 5760x1080 on a lot of games and certainly something like these new cards would be awesome to use, but then I'd also have to upgrade my gaming rig to Win 10. I'm not in any rush to jump to Win 10 on my gaming rig - I've had bad experiences with Win 10 and their shotty upgrades.

I still get solid performance for my needs on my 980Ti, so I'll happily pass on dropping a mortgage payment on a new GPU.

I was actually looking at a couple of performance graphs in a review which should the 2080 Ti performing at double the framerate of a 1080.

Also, remember that a 1080 should be compared to a 2080 and a 1080 Ti should be compared to a 2080 Ti. Don't let the overall price increases imposed by NVIDIA skew your perception into thinking that a 2080 should be compared to a 1080 Ti, because they're different tiers and it could be right and proper that the 1080 Ti outperforms the 2080.

In general, when actually buying a card, you should look at the performance of your current card and then at the prospective card that you can afford to buy, regardless of tier to help you decide if it's worth buying.

I personally wouldn't bother with SLI. I tried it for a few years and it was always niggly and problematic in one way or another and is something that most people report. Much better to spend more and have one powerful GPU than two weaker ones working in tandem.

In all honesty, it looks terrible. Most of scenes look too bright, almost over exposed and lack any kind of depth on many surfaces when in RTX ON. It may be "real" on ray tracing basis, but it certainly doesn't feel real on any level as a final image/scene output. RTX ON looks more like HBAO+ being turned off and showing that as RTX ON. I don't know, either they screwed up something or they forgot how real world actually looks like. I'm not sold. Global illumination works fine apparently, but we've seen that in Kingdom Come and it looked spectacular without any "RTX".

Question is, do they even consider it as broken? Given how proudly they showcase it in this video, I'd say is that they believe this is how it should be. I'm not convinced because it just doesn't look right.

You're have the same reaction as a person that has watched oversaturated monitors all their life and is seeing a properly calibrated monitor for the first time
Plus, that demo is made specifically to show how light scattering influences the scene. It's when you add a second (possibly moving) light source that ray tracing starts to distance itself from precomputed maps.
