So talking with a buddy today about manufacturers we miss who are no longer producing parts so I thought for fun I'd ask you guys if there were manufacturers you missed.

The two for me are
ABIT
3DFX

ABIT because they made amazing motherboards and I loved my old ABIT boards.

3DFX, because I'd have liked to have seen where the market had gone if there were 3 major players and also they did make good cards.

Hercules. Their 3D Prophet cards were just sick.

Damn, been a while since I've heard of Abit, those were pretty affordable and neat boards.

EPoX

They had cheaper/more affordable motherboards just as capable of insane overclocks as pricier brands.

I really miss the old DFI. Some of you may remember their Lanparty lineup - the best enthusiast boards with most toxic color schemes ever.
Always wanted their x48 board for my dream machine build, but by the time I got the cash it was too late - Nehalem arrived and I went with ASUS Rampage II GENE instead.

BFG Technologies, Inc.

+1

Had quite a few BFG boards back in a day. Did my first DICE OC experiments on their S939 board, even had their branded PPA for a few weeks before nVidia took over Ageia (borrowed from a colleague to test Cellfactor).

EPoX

They had cheaper/more affordable motherboards just as capable of insane overclocks as pricier brands.
We still have ECS and BIOSTAR. Never really liked EPoX products.

  • DFI
    • I miss the LanParty motherboards, my LanPart DK P35-T2RS was one helluva board, and I believe it is still running form someone.
  • 3dFX
    • Because the VooDoo Banshee was one of the first true gaming cards I purchased that really paved the way for me getting back into PC gaming from console games. And Glide had its short lived badass API moment.
    • Was nice when there was ATI, NV and 3dFX all in competition, and even S3 and Matrox here and there.
  • Abit
    • The Abit AS8-v that I vdroop modded (soldered resistors and pencil mods) to OC my Pentium 4 was so much fun to mess around with, burned up and was an under performer, but was still fun and budget-oriented.
  • S3 Graphics
    • The Trio 64v+ got me playing the first Tomb Raider, came in the NEC PC my parents had purchased IIRC. Was also one of the cards you could upgrade the RAM in iirc correctly. :D

Voodoo PC.

ABIT, I really miss the feelings from when I first got my IC7-MAX3, it took me over a year to get enough cash to buy it.

Also: Aureal Semiconductor

Abit, DFI and Soyo.

I still have my old SOYO Topaz S monitor. It's my back-up monitor in case something happens with my 30" HP. I miss DFI also.

Def miss the DFI lanparty boards and BFG. Those were my go to's. Id be very curious to see how they would fare in this day and age.

Cyrix , I agree on Abit 3dfx ,DFI and Matrox Already but that third Competetive(Via were always shit) x86 maker sure was missed these last 20 years , I had a Abit X38 QUad Gt i named my pc after it for years ,even after board swaps , i still have Gt in its name as a memorial ,i blew that shit up, but did get some Good benches first.

IC7-G, AT8-32X and IP35-Pro. Still have the last 2 in their boxes.

I still have a few of those boards mentioned... Abit and DFI.. Think I have a Hercules card as well.. When I get the house sorted out with electrics, I'll be making a list of the stuff I have here, I really need to get a handle on it..... :)

I miss Gravis and 3dfx.
