Cyberpunk before bed, Cyberpunk in the morning.

I'm pretty sold on the actual 'cyberpunk' aspect of this. It's interesting that this is where we are now, in fiction. I mean, cyberpunk as a whole has been around since the 80's - the game this one is based off of is a classic in its own right. But back then, it was a cult thing. It would sort of hang on the outskirts, until computer technology hit the wider markets and became a part of our lives. We tried VR for the first time ever. PC's became commonplace in homes and workplaces. Our world very rapidly became more digitized, more automated. And as we transitioned into this era of transistors and printed circuit boards, suddenly people got a lot more interested in cyberpunk works. It seems like it only continues to grow as our own technology, cities, and societies harken to them increasingly more. Are we imitating it, or is it imitating us?

It's really something. Originally, cyberpunk was a bastardized form of sci-fi. Stuff that could never really be possible, stuff that subverted a lot of the common beats. Heavily embellished and fantastical pictures of a future reality, blown up in such a way as to ask greater philosophical questions about what it means to be a person, and what this whole world we're constantly building is really for. Now, we look at the nicer parts of the aesthetic and say "This is what the future looks like." When we want to make products look modern, we borrow from that aesthetic. But what about the darker side? The 'punk' side.

What I'm getting at is... it's become more accessible now. This isn't a fringe genre. It's a staple in many areas of fiction. The look is something that droves of people absolutely adore and turn out for. Perhaps because it is now so prevalent, even in our daily lives, as to be instantly appealing and relatable. We see huge bits of our world in it, in Cyberpunk 2077's world. But I wonder if it isn't also speaking to our fears about the future on a more visceral level than it may have for people encountering it for the first time, in the 80s. As life catches up with art, suddenly people become more interested in that art.

What's most striking to me about the visuals of CP2077 is how it STILL looks exactly like what people in the 80s imagined an alternate future looks like, but now has that unmistakable familiarity to it. As time goes on, it takes on new layers of meaning. I can see so many pieces of our present in it that at times, it doesn't even seem like it couldn't appear within my lifetime. As fantastical as ever, but maybe closer to truth than previously envisioned... and maybe that's a part of what makes this side of fiction more compelling than it has ever been these days...
Most science fiction becomes a cultural artifact of its contemporary era as the real world progresses. This game appears to be heavily influenced by the 1980s. Art is a product of the decade it was produced, and this has been influenced heavily by 1980s art. I don't think the cyberpunk aesthetic itself will be our 21st century, however the man-machine interface technology is here and now and in that sense it has been predictive.

The 1950s produced a lot of rocket inspired science fiction, but most of that has not panned out as of the 21st century. However, if you are a fan of science fiction, one book that I have found which has been very predictive despite being mid 20th century has been The Space Merchants by Frederik Pohl and Cyril Kornbluth.

You ought to try your hand at some serious writing as you clearly have a gift with words. Seriously.

I'm sorry sir, but I wasn't aware that there was a speed limit in night city. That really came out of nowhere

Wish I knew why I'm having so many problems, and why they're only happening on my main system. Anyone else with Zen+ having issues?

EDIT: Also these two events happened immediately after the game crashed.

Driver version 460.89 installed through NVCleanstall.

I think I reinstalled the game a few days ago as part of my troubleshooting process. I use the offline installers instead of GOG Galaxy.

I had a bunch of crashes from these, my game wouldnt even start though. Had to reinstall them using the clean install option from inside the nv installer. Then it was all better.

Should I just use the NVIDIA installer? Maybe this is an unknown issue with NVCleanstall?

I reinstalled Windows a few days ago, so my drivers should be pretty clean.

I’ve been using NVCleaninstall without any issues even did with the game ready drivers. I uninstall with Nvidia’s uninstallers for audio/display driver, and Physx. I follow up with DDU then use NVCleaninstall to install the drivers.

Using driver version 460.79 WHQL

same here took about 5 mins to unpack and install and off I went playin no problems so far oh still a few visual glitches like npc's dying in the T pose and things being stuck where you can't get at them but other than that game ran well

Oh one more thing I'm back to being stuck using F to open, pick up, get on/in and you can't change it because the listing for F in keyboard settings has gone completely

Yeah, doing a clean install of the drivers didn't fix the issue. Got a crash after about five minutes of playtime. Oh well.

Just wish I could figure out what exactly is causing my crashes. I guess I'll try reinstalling the game again. Maybe on my hard drive instead.

Wish I knew why I'm having so many problems, and why they're only happening on my main system. Anyone else with Zen+ having issues?

EDIT: Also these two events happened immediately after the game crashed.

These look like Windows stability problems not game stability problems. Perhaps the game is pushing Windows in directions it doesn't want to go? What version of Windows are you running? Did you install the AMD chipset driver pack instead of leaving the default Windows drivers going? That one is important!

CP2077 already looks good even in Medium preset but holy S*** it looks too good to be a game with Ultra RT

Ultra RT + DLSS Quality

With this level of visual, CP2077 will remain relevant in the PC gaming for years, just as TW3 did.

I have only just finished ACT I but I enjoy the main story so far, side missions are very interesting too, haven't seen any boring fetch quest that are so ubiquitous in RPGs

tbh i think you have to be playing in the game to see the diff

I originally manually installed the AMD chipset drivers from AMD's website. I'm running Windows 10 20H2 (19042.685).

Just did the basic system integrity checks, SFC repaired something. Also installed GOG Galaxy and am currently installing the game on my hard drive rather than the SSD it was on before.

That could go either way. Might have been a related problem or something unrelated. Did the report state what was fixed?

Have you checked your SSD SMART status?

Just did now. Doesn't look like they've been updated since my reinstall of Windows, but I guess installing them again won't hurt.

That could go either way. Might have been a related problem or something unrelated. Did the report state what was fixed?

I ended up running SFC again after it repaired stuff, so the log from that one was overwritten it looks like.

Have you checked your SSD SMART status?

It's a 525GB Crucial MX300. 98% health, 9.7TBW, no SMART errors. The drive I'm reinstalling it to is a 4TB Seagate with no SMART errors.

I apologize for derailing this thread a bit.

Yeah but the screenshot I took showed all the RT effects :D, reflections on the ground tiles, Sun shadows on the buildings on the left and emissive lightning coming from the chinese lanterns. All combined create a distinctive next gen look for CP2077.
Looking around Night City I just can't stop admiring how beautiful it is (spent lot of time looking around for Joytoy too  )
I freaking love this song when being played in the Afterlife club

CP2077 definitly get 10/10 for immersive experience.

yay, the update 1.05 files only 9GB. But it would need more than 100GB disk space to install it? :twitch: :respect:

Nahhh, since I don't have problems or issue with previous version, maybe I will update it later until I have enough disk space (by deleting some other games, or buy a new SSD/NVME )

Well 1.05 has certainly improved my average FPS count and it's a lot more stable aswell, still have minor bugs like a cigarette was floating in the air and then it wasn't after second.
