The 5700 XT installed in my Dad's rig is working perfectly now, after a few driver updates. I was initially frustrated with the instability when I first bought it, swapped it between three different rigs trying to figure out whats wrong. Even RMA'd it and got no improvement. I put it on the shelf until I went to visit my Dad and realized he was trying to use a GTX 550 to play world of tanks, so I gave him the 5700 XT. After a few remote tech support sessions, it was working fine. I just updated him to the most recent driver last weekend, and havent got any angry phone calls.

I'd say the drivers are stable now.

"havent got any angry phone calls."

LMAO ok :laugh::laugh: Tnx you for your feedback!

My card works great. No driver problems. See system specs.

I would wait until next month when the 6700 should come out.
Yes and no because the driver circus will start all over with a new hardware launch just like any manufacturer. I think the RDNA launch was a little worse than usual. I had more driver issues with my GTX970 than any card I have ever owned but Nvidia doesn't seem to get the same treatment with driver issues. I bought that card 6 months after launch and it took nearly a year to see consistent stability. I got my Vega 64 when it was already a mature platform and it's been rock solid. It sucks down the juice like it's going out of style but it's rock solid.

i know 2 people running them right now. not a single crash so far.

Just got a friend's build running two weeks ago with one. Stable as can be.

Rock solid and stable. No issues here with my 5700 XT.

RX5700 here and haven't had a problem with drivers yet 20.12.1 seem to be running fine

I upgraded from an RX580 to an RX5700XT a couple of months ago and have seen more driver time-out crashes with the new card than I ever did with the RX580. In fact, I can barely remember any serious crashes with the old card.
Yesterday I had a driver time-out crash with odd looking tiny rectangles on the screen while on YouTube, with an AMD pop-up asking to report it etc. A reboot fixed the issue.
I always do a clean Radeon software install and am currently on 21.2.1, so I may do yet another clean driver install and see what occurs.

That's unusual for a Strix card to be playing up like that they're usually built well with good quality components have you tried running the auto undervolt setting from within Radeon Settings

I only got driver time out crashes, when running a game, because my GPU core OC was unstable. (Albeit it's not the RX 5700XT) (It's an RX 5600XT)

Normally, that screams unstable GPU core OC, but I gotten roughly the same thing before, because of a software-related issue. Adrenalin may do this randomly at a low load.

No, it's not the same. The 5700's were the first RDNA cards and it had stability issues, while the second generation (RDNA2, 6000) haven't had anywhere close that amount of issues AFAIK (we're not talking about availability here). The 6700 XT is the fourth card of the second generation (RDNA2), although it's a smaller die this time.

Yes, they might mess it up anyway, but like I said, this launch is not comparable to the 5000 launch.

Well just make sure you have high quality PSU, high quality monitor and high quality display cable, disable PCIe Gen4, disable Enhanced Sync and just stick to known stable driver revision, I guess the 5700XT will be stable.

Asus made quite a mess on their AIB models back when the 5700XT launched. Basically the cooler was falling off the card.

Yes, I've seen these videos and fortunately mine is a later card and on physical inspection, all is as it should be with normal temperatures.

I have all those things checked.

I'll give that a try, thanks.

It's completely random and totally intermittent, often going for many days without a crash, but I'd certainly like to know what's causing it.

I've noticed my VRAM clock speed at idle is always at 1740 or thereabouts, whereas the RX580 hovers at 300 at idle.

This TPU thread from 2019 covers this issue...

@Splinterdog I had the same issue with my RX5700 (non XT) and a 75Hz ViewSonic 2457MHD monitor since switching to an RX6800 (also non XT) the problem has gone it just bounces between 8~10MHz at idle

I followed the advice of some other 5700 users and lowered the refresh rate to 143 but the VRAM clock speed at idle stays at 1740. This worked for other users however.

I bought mine in november. Had a couple driver timeout crashes, but nothing major. In a nutshell: yes, I can recommend buying one.

In a build for a friend with a 5600xt lowering to 120hz seems to do the trick. The memory clock idles. Hope this helps.

Thanks for that tip. I'm continuing this subject in another thread with varying degrees of success.

I haven't had issues for a while with both my AMD cards. You're good to go.
