I noticed a difference in the style used in the listing compared to normal speech, that should have been a hint to some people.

t
Because I get on Several Discord accounts infrequently, I always have to 2FA get onto there.
hats against tos no?

Why do i randomly get unfollowed from certain threads?

maybe require the setting on to engadge in buying and selling
I could certainly agree with that. An account has to have 2FA enabled before it can access the B/S/T section. I think that's a fair compromise.

If you don't want to enable 2FA, then you can't B/S/T but you can access the rest of the site.

Also the pictures didn't have the required handwritten note. That should have at least made anyone buying suspicious enough to wait until proper pictures had been uploaded.

i get that too, drives me nuts

Unfollow (as in you actually have to click the watch thread button at the top) or you just don't receive further notifications about it? If it's the latter, you don't receive any new notifications (either push or alerts) after you receive one and don't check the thread.

i miss notifications til i manually go back to the thread

It seems tied in to when comments spill over to a new page - so if this thread hit page 16 and had posts there but i didnt notice and closed the tab while on page 15, i'd get no notifications til i came back and loaded page 16

Logical enough, staff are the ones who are most likely to be targeted and can do the most damage

Thats how it always worked for me even a decade ago - they blocked third party email access on-site due to the security risk

Even back then in the XP days i could just bypass it with a VPN, but he's certainly in a rare situation with no access to any 2FA stuff.
He can make the choice to have no 2FA at the risk of his security, seems fair.

Probs got your password hacked from another forum breach and used the same name there. I can see myself getting potentially hit by that since i go by the same name (with different passwords) in a lot of forums, but i could have used the same password twice at some point
This username follows me everywhere I go sadly :kookoo:

I so wish I'd seen it. I'm quite attuned to shady stuff like that and can spot it a mile off.

And of course, the handwritten piece of paper with the username on it is missing.
Would be good to make it mandatory from now on (unless it already is).

Good point and yes, it's already mandatory. It would have been picked up on one way or another by the mods anyway,

There's a rules post for that section, if you're curious. I thought it made a fascinating read lol.

Where does one find the rules? I'm having trouble finding them since the updated forum rules notification was removed.

@qubit But when you think about it, anyone with the skill to write can make that :P I'm not sure if someone will be willing to check the seller's previous threads to compare the writting, however that's what I'd do, especially after what happened.

It is. It’s always been a requirement.

So how did people get hacked anyway? User fault rather than forum being compromised I guess?

Looks like it, zero hacks since then, I’ve been closely monitoring everything

Indeed, it's always best to check the buyer or seller's background, if possible.

For me, I tend to only trade with friends I trust, because there's so much scope for strangers to commit fraud or other bad things. Even a fairly low chance is too high for my liking.

The other day, I bought an i5-4590, cooler (mounted and new TIM), Asus mini ATX mobo and 16GB RAM (2 sticks) off a friend I've known for the last 15 years. Not tried it out yet, because he told me he'd tested it, it was working fine and trust him on it totally. It's gonna be my file server for backups, hence no graphics card. I've got loads of those anyway...

Jeez. The web sure is a shady place these days. I've been looking to sell a ton of unused hardware but all I see is the word "Scammers" pasted all over Trustpilot UK
when looking for a platform. Not willing to pay the Bay's eye watering fees, and with many other selling places suffering hacks etc, I'm beginning to ask myself is it worth the hassle :(

In my book it isn’t. The safest place does seem to be eBay, which still has its risks.

We move in different circles.

Regarding the Bay. Been a member for 18 years. It's had a huge overhaul recently, Yes it's safer than most selling platforms, but that comes at a cost....The fees.

Sorry @qubit I edited the post after you upped me to try and stay on topic as much as possible :/

Regarding the Bay. Been a member for 18 years. It used to be a great place. Now with managed payments, a merry-go-round of scammers, dishonest buyer (and seller) and the lack of those magical £1 FVF's it seem as if they want rid of the private seller all together.
Exactly. Sounds even worse than I thought. I used to do a bit of light trading over a decade ago selling things. Then they started getting all up in the face of sellers by increasing buyer protection at the expense of seller protection, so I stopped before I got scammed. I was quite pissed off about it, actually.

EDIT: sorry mods, just realised we've all gone way off topic here so I won't reply any more here on the buying and selling discussion.

Many have abused the MBG and it shows with the ever increasing fees. Someone rips off another, you pay for it.
Some of the tales in their forums will raise both eyebrows. I can image it's put many potential sellers off all together.

Nearly got stung once. When a seller put a card up for sale claiming it's hardly seen any action, it arrives and all looks good.
Only to see the same seller put another 15 cards up for sale the day after mine arrived, It was during the last mining crash.
Questioned it, all denied of course. Had to get PP to step in even though I could smell the reluctance to help. Got a refund and stepped back from buying any used cards.

It used to be a great place to buy and sell used hardware. Not so sure any longer.
