Hi there is Dark Mode good for your eyes or is it bad wondering because all of my devices I use is on Dark Mode and for me it doesn't seem to do any harm but the individual pixels that is lighting up is bright and the rest is dark I don't think I'm asking the question correctly?

Well from the exact same question that was posted on LTT forums...

Lmao I knew someone from LTT forums would be here as well :D
wanted to see if I would get the same results from there

Dark Mode is generally good if you are in a room that is very dark and generally unnecessary or even bad if the room is well lit. Monitor has to be as well lit as the surroundings, in other words.

There is no dark mode on TPU. I know you can get a chrome extension that does dark mode. I don't use that extension at work (so I can't tell you what it is since I'm at work right now), but I do use it at home and it works good. I can't speak for other browsers, though, if they have similar extensions/options for a dark mode.

I personally love dark mode. I can't stand light mode.

Isn't it beautiful?

If you have a device with an OLED screen, dark mode actually has some advantages. The main one is reduced power usage since each pixel emits its own light.

I've also managed to convince myself that OLEDs die more quickly the brighter they're run. While it may or may not be true, using dark mode also helps alleviate my paranoia.

This meme describes how I feel perfectly.

I use dark mode on my phone since years, as well as in everything else I can switch it to, eg chrome on PC.

dark mode is good, but varies depending on the type of display you have
OLED loves dark blacks as the pixels turn off, but on LCD those same pixels would shimmer

In theory, darker images are better for the screens life. On some panel types, its a very large difference - on others, it just prevents burn in, or does nothing at all.

Personally, i'd love TPU to have a 'dark mode' as long as its not pure black

I think that would only apply to emissive displays (OLED, plasma, even CRT). I don't think it would have any effect on transmissive displays (LCD).

OLED, QLED, mini LED, BRG, RGB, VA, TN, IPS, all the thousand other variants...

Theres a lot of display types. Theres a lot of small differences - i covered best and worst scenarios, but all of them are *good* for darker images, not worse. Bright white is the best for clarity, but highest power consumption and therefore heat, and burnin risk.

Dark Reader in Firefox works great for me in TPU forum section.

It's fine. There's nothing out there suggesting otherwise and I've used it for years. Go for it.

It is, now how do I use it on TPU?

IMO dark mode is actually better. I certainly can read things easier. Especially in the dark.

i am using the light mode to save energy. my panel is so bright no need to switch on the other lights. ;)

While I agree - I believe the most important factor is time. How much time does one spend staring at the screen? The truth is, the less the better.

Another "time" factor is important too. In this case, the time of day. It is a proven fact that screen time right before bed disrupts good sleep patterns.

I tend to like a grey-ish background even more than the black one with white letters.

Who was excited when M$ added it to windows? I did with of course a windows 10 black wallpaper

Backing up my comments from earlier:

I've been testing dark mode on various displays

OLED: fantastic
VA: eyestrain
TN: ahahaha NOOOOO
IPS: testing later today
