According to some "highly ranked sources", the RV670 is beating NVIDIA's G92 in preliminary benchmarks. When the two reference boards are pitted against each other in an epic battle of 3Dmark06, the RV670 earns 11,400 3DMarks, and the G92 earns 10,800 3DMarks. If these benchmarks are even remotely accurate, this would prove that the new mid-range parts from both companies will be worthy competitors to the high-end parts. As comparison, the current 8800Ultra, which retails for about $600USD now, gets 12,500 in 3DMark06. Hopefully, with driver optimizations and finalized retail board designs, we will see a feisty fight for the 3DMark06 crown, and marked performance increases.

Sweet, wonder how these new gpus will overclock.

600 points in 3Dmark doesn't mean alot.

ATI FTW. for me though, this is good news cause im looking to the 780 or whatever it is, which is a dual core version of the 670 i think

ala x1800 anyone?

I 3dmark scores on the hd series is no where near proportional to frame rate in games as of now. I have yet to hear of a person running dual overclocked 2900's with higher fps than a person with dual overclocked 8800u's. ATI still needs to work on their drivers.

for me its always mid range ...

im Skeptical of the Inquirer.

Hmm, if it's true, it's not much of a difference. The drivers could be a factor in this too since neither card is ready for launch.

INQ might not be the most reputable source out there but it gives direction atleast. These new mid range cards seem like winners to me, my trusty x1900xtx might finally get replaced.

well claiming that they are leading in 06 seems very farfetched, dont get me wrong i like ATI but they have never ruled any benchmarks, just games.

The 3DMark06 World record begs to differ.

Is it just me, or is there no mention of test setups?

Yeah, we'll see what happens when some of us buy an 8800GT and some of us buy a 2950Pro. I think they'll be evenly matched, but ATI better play their driver support cards right, and both better OC decently. Hype is hype, take it with a grain of salt, I want to see real world stats from people like you and I.

O/C, well not teh nvidia ... heard they are having some heat issues .. whereas teh ATi's running cooler, but teh dual slot cooler may still be an option ... i think ATi gonna pwn overclocking ...

We'll see, they both still have some time before release. And I'm sure the NV will run toasty, most of their recent upper-end cards have, but when they are rated for 100+ C, I'm sure they'll implement enough cooling to get the job done! I'm sure the 2950 will do great also, and I do hope it has a 2 slot cooler, hopefully with a more silent fan that can still pump some decent CFM. Again, time will tell, I'm looking forward to both and will end up buying one or the other.

But since my old 9600pro days, I've had an 850, and this 1950, is the 2950 in my future? Maybe...maybe not.

Oh god I.R.A., it was almost unbearable reading that.. your spelling and grammar make me cringe.

nvidia heat issues? People have been doing vmods on the 8800gts stock cooler with no issues. Besides, how can you hear of heat issues when the 8800gt isn't even out yet?

fix'd it up a lil bit! :)

well i read that over @ nordic ... sent a bunch of pm's to zek to post but he hasnt moved on any, so i didnt bother to send him that.

10800 my a..s, i got with some overclock on my EVGA 8800 GTS 640MB sc almost 13000, The Inquirer is the most untrusted site i ever see, they never had clear printscreens or pictures to prove the claims, they are only a scandal site, and where is the TEST SETUP PC, ar they tested in they dreams, and just printed the results.

. You've been served my Nvidia for the longest time now, and I don't see a reversal anytime soon.

Not true, the X1800 and X1900 series did well against the 7800 and 7900 series cards. It's just been recently with the 8800 has Nvidia had the clear advantage over the higher priced 2900XT. With the 2950 pro coming at a much lower price, things are getting competitive.

Since when has a sythetic benchmark which has no basis on game performance given the conclusion that card a is superio to card b.

I will let game results do the talking and judging from the relatively weak performance shown from ATI cards lately (from initial reviews) I am not holding my breath. (although hopefully ati can sort out their drivers BEFORE launching a card and not 6 revisions down the line.

If it actually performs at this level with a relatively low TDP it'll be nice. Sounds like I'll be going back to ATI then.

So the RV670 is better than what is supposed to be a low-end card (G92)?
I thought it was supposed to be better than the 2900XT.

My Ultra beats both easily, so why should I upgrade?
