Preliminary Benchmarks Show RV670 Superiority Over G92

This is interesting, 600 points as stated is not huge, but it shows that they are at least playing in the same field together. Do I smell fear amongst the NV camp? no? oh, that must just be my toast burning...
 
Not true, the X1800 and X1900 series did well against the 7800 and 7900 series cards. It's just been recently with the 8800 has Nvidia had the clear advantage over the higher priced 2900XT. With the 2950 pro coming at a much lower price, things are getting competitive.

2900XT has a clear disadvantage under the 8800 series? I think a lot of that has been debunked with solid driver optimizations. Iv seen recent benchmarks where the 2900XT was holding its own with the much more costly 8800u.

yeah these scores can't be right, the G92 is rumored to run at 800+ mhz core, if you OC a 8800GTS to this you get much better numbers than 10.8k. Also the G92 as rumor have it will have 16 scalar shader units more than the current 8800 GTS's. The only downside to this new card is its 256bit memory bus as opposed to the current 320bit memory buss of the 8800's. Who knows maybe we never needed the extra 64bits on the memory bus. I think the real numbers for the G92 will be higher than 10.8k. (by the way I'll be swapping my 8800 GTS 320mb in evgas step up program for a G92) :)
 
With my 1200w Neo-Link setup, that's something I'll never have to worry about again ;)

that is my problem, where i live currently teh ambients are thru teh room ...

I agree, anyone who buys over a 700 Watt(Even for SLI/Crossfire Systems) PSU for gaming is just not very smart. You have fallen to market hype if you have. Sorry, enjoy footing the power bill, or maybe your parents do(poor them). What people should seek is more efficient power supplies their are a lot in the 80+ efficiency club now. Also CPUs/GPUs are using less and less power now with the progression of die shrinks. Just look at penryn, woot 45nm here we come!
 
O/C, well not teh nvidia ... heard they are having some heat issues .. whereas teh ATi's running cooler, but teh dual slot cooler may still be an option ... i think ATi gonna pwn overclocking ...

this has to bemy fav post ever it is wrong in every manner physically possible the HD2900 have got to be the hottest running cards since well the X1950s :roll: and has ANY NV card ever NOT oc'd like a bat outta hell???? my 7800GS can pull off 44% over the stock oc'd core and ~52% over NV's numbers and thats on stock vgpu/cooler. now by itself yeah one good card etc. but EVERY NV card i have ever owned can pull off at least a 40% oc on stock cooling/vgpu.

who cares if the have heat issues now its cause they are trying to put a tiny cooler on there midrange card like thay always do

that is the cooler that most come with even the factory oc'd editions and anyone who has ever oc'd one of these cards knows you get about a 6% oc on the X1950 and upwards of 40% on the 7900GS both stock cooled without vmods

CD, your comparisons are wrong for the most part. Also ati stock heatsinks are nortoiously loud due to the fan, not fan noise but the hub. We all know larger heatsinks than OEM equals lower temps and noise. Why not get a 2slot?

i admit the asus X1950 fits that but the others use the OEM factory HSF combos and show a trend that the NV ones are smaller and yet both the ATi/NV cards have comparable performance and run cooler... so how is my post wrong????
 
same thing, when i was buying my 7900 GS i had to SEARCH to find one with a massive heatsink that looked stock AND covered teh memory.

i was x1950 shopping at teh same time and it was "which color i wanted my massive heatsink in"

even teh XFX superclocked whatever they are had teh reference cooler

my 7900 GS went to 600/930(*2) ... with headroom ... left alot cause my ambients fluctuate alot
 
Also your cooler is solid copper, where ati's is a small 1.5x2.5 copper heatsink with air being sucked over it. Horrible design end of story. By the way my x1800 at 724.5mhz core 1.45vcore and 922.1mhz memory overheats a vf900. The x1k series ran hot, real hot, and most of the heatsinks suck. Ati needs to rethink their cooling OEM.

also just as a side note my card is @569/1520 with a LOAD temp of 40C
 
Still solid copper man. The x1800xl (i think that is anyway) is still using a oem heatsink aka shit. Ati can't make a good heatsink assembly, even when they steal arctic cooling's design for the 1950xtx's and hd2900 series. Their OEM just sucks and needs to be shot.

it was a GTO i believe and mine is the stock reference design from NV

and also my card with a vmod will do 700mhz on the stock cooler and not break a sweat

Im just saying ati's oem cooling is shit, nvidia has it together other than the couple of interior vents on the 8800 coolers, but hell that nothing compared to the jet engine blower style of ati.

First off no one is stealing AC's design(s). If you ever read about the 1950xtx or the HD2XXX series you would know the ATi did not make those HSF. It was HIS.
 
As usual, I am going to wait until both are finally out and reviews are out before deciding. I want to see which one overclocks better, and pricing before I will begin to consider either.
 
Thanks for all the pics of them cards. Its nice to see with ATI taking the midrange road, Nvidia followed suit. Its still too early to tell which will be the superior card, but i say, let us enjoy the bevy of new found gpus!!!!

WRONG.

The only applications where R600 manages to hold its own are synthetic benchmarks (3DMark 2006) - in real-world performance nVidia wins 90% of the time. Unless RV670 is something special, my next upgrade will be a G92.
