2 tb samsung ssd 970 evo plus m.2 ssd gets to hot for my taste

What fan to the left ?

What fan to the left ?
Yes, per your picture you can try mounting a fan to the left on your case as intake and see if that is enough. The more direct airflow you can get to hit that heatsink (head on) will be the most effective. It's mass and surface area is so low it just doesn't work well without airflow directly over the heatsink. I didn't have the option for my case so I had to rest the fan on the gpu.

What fan to the left ?
There is a space to add (or relocate) a fan to the left. That should create airflow across the back of your GPU & move dead air away from the SSD.

i think i will try another fan at the back also exhaust, since rear intake, to much of that air will be taken out of the case by the top fan before is does any positive for my gpu/ssd

Aio in the front so the top front white fan is giving it fresh colder air then rear mounted, second white fan is colling my rx 6700 xt so there won't be much hot air from the rear part of my gpu going up to the aio

Am impressed that the Glotrends heatsink can go from 71 to 45c

My ek heatsink can't do that, not even 10 c i think is possible

It can but it needs direct airflow to do it.

I installed an Artic p12 pwm fan as an exhaust, lower temps at normal use

I even lovered my top fan from 660 ish to 525-550 an the new fan does run at the same rpm

So fare it's stays under 69 -71c

Took me 9-10 min in aida64 extreme stability test all to get to 68c on my ssd

After about 30 minutes of gaming I see these SSD temps:

I don't understand how yours is running 70C ....

You forgot to mention though what you were doing when it got upto 70 degrees.

mine is not a 980 pro ssd

I know, my C drive is even a PCIe 4.0 one...
Drive H in my screenshot is a 970 Evo 500GB. (I know ," no plus") but never near the temps you are seeing..
All others are SATA SSD's.

You still haven't said what you are doing when your SSD now runs 62 degrees C, or is it really when just idle!?....

#32

My ssd hardly ever idles

How hot does it run when you don't touch the PC?
How hot when you run a game of it?

If you then see temps as mine , there's nothing wrong and you would only see these high temps when extreme stress testing (which you failed to mention in the OP...)

how hot is your gpu when your nvme drive is running warm
can you lower your gpu some slots down?
also, throttling starts at 95-100° i cooled a nvme its controller once while copying 500k of files with canned liquid air to have a constant rate.

gpu 65-75c hotspot can peak mid 80's, not shure if it get't to more then 90c

When gaming it depends on the game

Now it's not getting so hot do to the extra fan

Update wreckfest and 1 youtube video ssd 66c, gpu 57,hotspot peaking at 70c

Check temps
if its not better than probably the airflow
remove the top/back fan and hold a vaccum cleaner while measuring temps
if its not better than probably something is wrong with your nvme
replace the thermal pads on your nvme

sadly your mainboard does not have a chipset fan which provides additional cooling for the drive being placed near it.

other than that, your ssd is fine being 60°-70°

chipset fan is in the right lower corner, will not have an effect, gpu, cpu, ssd wil not have a effect from that and it's only amd

samsung 970 evo get's hot, thats a fact

what i meant by that is that there are some designs arround where the chipset fan can cool your drive.
Like this mainboard

Once had the freezer II aio, the fan was noise and it didn't notice any improvements in temps do to the fan

Again it's for amd not for intel cpu's

Did you try my suggested test?

I have only used it as an exhaust.

Can somone please enlighten me about 2x x4 ssds and a x16 gpu (can't remember) does it run x8 and 2x x4 or can it run do to the chipset x16 and 2x x4 ? My cpu has 20 pci e lanes

Having 2 ssd's when gaming, does it effect the temps when one is for the os and the other is for games, 90% of the games i play (like steam games where the rest ea, uplay, ubisoft, gog galaxy plarium play is on driv c) ?

You might try flipping the fan around or taking off the EK heatsink and see if you get better results now that you have a bit of improvement in your air flow and see what gets you the best results.

Just FYI you can use GPUz (https://www.techpowerup.com/download/techpowerup-gpu-z/) to check your GPU's bus interface link speed. (x16, x8, x4 etc...)

Well in theory if you don't have enough RAM the OS will utilize the swap file (typically on C) more than it might otherwise. If it's enough to contribute any significant amount of heat it would probably depend on how memory constrained your system gets and if that causes a lot of swapping.

I can't use that, i wanna know (if i buy an extra ssd) before buying an extra ssd what both ssd's would run at

Can't remember what to type (google) so i get an answer to what they would run at x8,x4x4 or x16 x4 x4 or if it could be x16 x4 and x (0)

Im not talking about ram,not asking about ram, i asked about temps

More specific drive c with os and games vs drive c with os + drive s or g (games) with games

Diffrences in temps when only using 1 ssd vs 2 ssd, i can't remember (or don't know) if temps are higher (any differences) when having games on drive c vs drive c with os and drive g with games

If you can't answer you're getting nowhere imo..

For others: OP is complaining that his 970 evo plus is running over 60C while before not mentioning that he was running a stresstest on it....

i have answered, in the late 60's with the rear fan

Note sure if NVMe will work with less than x4 lanes per NVMe.

You might need to consult your motherboard manual to see how your PCIe lanes are wired/shared to help you find the right answer and if PCIe bifurcation will be able to supply the needed lanes for your available NVMe slots or if you intended to use an add-in PCIe card. If your 2nd NVMe slot comes off the chipset then you need to check if using of SATA ports or other chipset driven PCIe slots are shared and might disable the 2nd NVMe slot.

Understand when swap file is used, for example in low memory situations while playing games, that is increased use on your C drive means more heat so insufficient RAM can indirectly effect SSD temps depending on how much pressure is put onto swap.

Ah, I missed that.
