Starfield discussion thread

As irritating as it is, I can understand why they put a limit on the ship size and weight. If they would have made it unlimited, no one would build outposts, they would do everything in their ship.

Thanks, I will have to take a look at it.

i still haven't built an outpost, just not part of the game i enjoy. i like the concept, but for some reason when i tried to do it just didn't click with me. i'd like it to be less hands on, rts overview, and i just click on a few crew members and a few buildings in rts view and boom done and i move on with rest of game

i understand some people like outposts though so its all good, dont have to love every part of the game to still enjoy it

-----SPOILER WARNING!!!-----

Regarding the UC questline, was anyone else upset that it ended without even getting to use the Aceles in battle against the Terramorphs?

On that note, since it also ended indicating there would be more UC missions available, does anyone know if it's possible to encounter such a thing in any of them, or are they all just simple errands by comparison?

I have a feeling this will be DLC...

Same here, but I did finely build a storage outpost on an ice planet in an uninhabited system since I was using up all of the 3178m3 of cargo space. I do all of my upgrades and production there as well now, which I might build a smaller ship and see how it works out.

On a side note, if you are at max ships and you get stuck in space on one that you were raiding, you will have to reload a save. The game will still give you the massage you are at the max current limit on ships.

Not really, as it was a given from comments at the end of the quest that deploying the Aceles would take time. It would certainly have been nice to see them in action though.

I've not done any Vanguard missions after the end of the quest line, but to me it sounded like further missions will be either "go here, kill terrormorphs" or "go here, kill Crimson/Va'ruun/Ecliptic pirates". I think more than that will have to wait for a DLC (or modders), as Easy Rhino said.

Where did you source it, Nexus?

Different and better version of a capeless mod out now. The first one has some issues with open areas between shoulders and torso etc, letting the light shine through. Not an issue in 1st person mode, which I always use, but this one may do away with that. Haven't yet used it, installing now.

Actually, in the initial briefing at the start of Hostile Intelligence, Hadrian only says the microbe option would be faster. However she goes on to say both methods would take resources, funding, and several years to implement. So basically all that is shown even with the microbe option is the collecting of the Aceles samples, which is just the tip of the iceberg.

I assumed the same as you, that the ongoing UC missions would just be side stuff, and nothing related to the actual extermination of the Terramorphs. I suppose fleshing out the quest to be several missions longer, culminating in perhaps using your choice of Aceles cloning or the microbe dispersal would make for good DLC content though, as Easy Rhino suggested.

2-3 more chapters to the quest line would certainly have been a good thing. I enjoyed the story, but it resolved rather too quickly and I would have preferred it to be a bit longer.

Narwhal X, a judiciously upgraded version of the one bought from Taiyo HQ in Neon.

Did Starfield really live up to the hype? I don't think so. If this game was released by an unknown company, it would have gotten 5/10 at best. Modders are trying their best to save it.
Interesting question that, because you really answer that with a yes when you say what's printed in bold. You just didn't like it. I think Starfield is a fine blueprint for some cool content that actually fleshes things out... but that needs a loooot of modding ;) The base game? I went by all the features, had genuine fun building ships, zero fun building outposts (its just so pointless, and hardly fun to do because of it), ran through a good part of the main story and side questing but nothing really gripped me, a big part of that is just the hilarious presentation. In a game that's all about dialogues, I'm still looking at plastic faces that reminisce of Oblivion, or even Morrowind. That really is representative of many of the game's systems too. Its all functional, but it doesn't quite hit the mark. You spend a lot of time building ships, but never once was I really challenged in it other than self-imposed goals (some amount of cargo space, some cool look, some sort of weapon system setup). And then you proceed to roflstomp a few random ship battles and you're like 'okay, I've seen this'.

Now I'm stuck back in Valheim for a week and sincerely enjoying myself building those samey outposts, and why? Because the game's systems click. It all works together to be more than the sum of its parts. And I think that's crucial to what Starfield isn't: there isn't a sum of parts, there's just parts that are supposed to be a game. In a way you could say even the entire skill tree is disconnected from the actual game play. My play didn't feel different for one bit at level 1 compared to level 80. Guns do bigger number. Yay.. too bad the health bar got that much longer.

Any AMD RDNA3 owners tried frame generation in Starfield cities yet? What's your resolution and what was your before and after fps in say New Atlantis running around the same spots? I am just curious.

It requires a preview driver, I'm not installing it just yet. Just wondering what others have gotten, preferably at 1440p.

I'm not burning myself on a fresh AMD feature / driver... Just like on Nv I'll leave that on the stove for a niiice long while :)

I seem to have run into a bit of a problem. For some reason my blue Starborn Power meter has not been showing for some time. At first I thought it was supposed to always regen over time, as it was when I was first using powers. Now it just stays drained. In my searching I have found nothing that indicates this should happen. I can neither equip or use any powers because of this.

Has anyone else had this happen or heard of it happening? If so, is there a workaround?

[EDITED]
This problem, if it was one, seems to have worked itself out. For some reason I can now use powers, and after doing so, the blue meter regens.

I have 30+ hours in the game so far. I give Starfield a 6.5 out of 10 for now. My main gripe is the lack of aliens in the game. So far I have only encountered other humans in space. No spacefaring aliens.

I'm really enjoying the game - taking my time with it, taking it all in :D

Visually it's a bit of a mixed bag, but it does look really good at times imo

I set myself the challenge of building the best Frontier, without changing the overall structure of it - result is pretty cool tbh.

The 2 particle weapon setups have a combined dps of 631,75 - so destroys everything extremely fast. And the EM weapons for disabling ships and raiding / stealing them.

The only issue i have with the game is the resource management - you basically have to have a huge cargo ship... so i converted a ship i stole to a semi freighter...

Lol... there are plenty of aliens in the game... lots of different species on every planet. But they specifically comment on not finding any sentient life, which is also the most likely scenario, if humans ever manage to become truly space faring.

All I've seen so far are alien animals. It would have been nice to play as a different alien race with their own ships, technology, and stories. I feel it's a missed opportunity. The game would be a lot better though it's still enjoyable. .I'll bet someone will come up with a mod that will do that. I'm just playing the main story, 6 chapters so far. Haven't built a ship or outpost yet. At least it runs decent with no crashes, just the usual graphic glitches, nothing game-breaking. I'll bet someone will come up with a mod that will do that.

Sorry guys, but I have to post it:

Talk about entirely missing the point...

this is brilliant

just needs a space ship made out of lasagna flying into its mouth to reach 10/10 peak level for me

Or a space ship that looks like Garfield! It's landing gear could be made a bit long with a pivot point in the middle, and when the ship lands you hear a loud baritone "Cats always land on their FFEEET!" :D

The alien parrots were pretty funny, but to double it down, you should opt for the microbe instead. IMHO, anyway. Will earn you affinity with Constellation characters if they're present as well (at least Sarah Morgan - space mommy).

Currently just about to hit level 90 here. Doing a solid NG+10.

Damn, now I feel like an underachiever with just level 84. Then again I've yet to go to/through (?) Unity even once, so maybe I'm worried for naught.

Oh wow! 84 on the original playthrough? I think I wrapped my original around level 30, amazing!

The level scaling is very weird, even on very easy the enemies tend to sponge up hard past level 70.

had any fun space battles? i feel like thats the weakest point of the game for me. i'd love to take on like 20 pirate ships with a fleet of my own 7 or 8, and use tactics in rts mode, but zoom in to regular starfield aiming mode when i want. damn, such a missed opportunity.

Oh yeah, try the UC Vanguard simulator in a subsequent playthrough if you want a challenge. The ships level increases but yours doesn't.

Also fly to the Key before you're on friendly terms with the Crimson Fleet. They will defend their territory!

Not really amazing, more like easy. I'm currently at level 41 and I only have 13 powers and have been piddling around a lot. I have nowhere near all the activities or side quests done that are on my Quest list either. Not sure how far I am in the game, but it still feels like I'm not close to the end yet.

I finished the UC questline remaining as neutral as possible, as I saw no difference when trying it either way. I did it that way in hopes if there IS a DLC to continue the UC questline where we finish dealing with the Terramorphs, I might have a better chance of having a choice whether to use the Aceles or Microbe if it is tied to the choices we made prior in the UC questline. So far I've done just one of the follow up quests Tuala assigns, and of the 3 types offered I took the specimen sample collection one. It was on Tirna II where you have to collect samples from several large "Cockroach" species. I just zapped em with the Disruptor and did it non lethal. It wasn't anything too interesting in and of itself, but in scanning as many flora and fauna as I could, there were some close calls with giant crabs. There was also a large deserted barracks base taken over by Ecliptic that had some contraband, and a stranded guy to escort back to his space ship.

I might try the other two mission types Tuala offered, but as it looks like sample collecting doesn't involve Terramorphs or Aceles, I'll probably not opt to do anymore of those.
