Link's Awakening DX HD (fan made). Spent about 20 minutes running around, so far it seems spot on from what I can remember from the game from my childhood.

Everyone grab this before Nintendo Legal blasts it from existence.

OK you'll just need to look a bit harder but make it easy on yourself and get it now!

Grab it while you can. Nintendo will likely shut this down soon.

That is likely DotNet3.5. If you grab the redistro's ;

Just in case the 4.0 is needed for whatever reason;

You can grab them from microsoft, but the pages change so frequently that I've given up referring to them. Plus, I love MajorGeeks! They rock!

The download page does not mention a requirement for whatever version either
I think the devs presume that everyone has the DotNet libraries installed.

same here
Funny enough, running it on Linux via Wine displayed a more detailed error message.

Clicking yes opens a direct download link from MS' servers.
Link in case it wasn't working for y'all (or need to view URL before clicking):

For some reason it was 6.0.25

The itch.io link you download the game from, there are a handful of questions and comments about the game on the page. Clicking through a couple of spots, someone posted this:

NeitherMeNorYou15 hours ago(+1)
When you start the game it should offer you to download the correct version from Microsoft directly.
Beyond that you should be able to manually download .net Desktop Runtime 6.0.25 x64 yourself from https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/download/dotnet/6.0

I see others have already posted about finding more info from trying to launch on Linux, but I just wanted to confirm. I didn't have any issues running the game, I just extracted all the files from the .zip into a folder and just clicked on the "Links Awakening XD HD" and it opened right up.

I didn't see any info about controls, but here is what I've discovered:
Arrow keys do the movement
Space opens your inventory screen. From there you have the Y/X/A/B keys listed.
S = A
D = B
A = X
W = Y
While inside the inventory screen, press "Enter" to interact with the map.

The "S" key appears to be the main action key. When you try to fish in the starting town you press S to cast and then press S rapidly to reel the fish in.

Saving, the game appears to auto save when you enter and/or exit a room in a building. You'll see the little disc icon appear in the lower right corner.

You can change the controls in game.

Also, I'm pretty sure this is straight up piracy.

This game was released in 1928, so I think any modding is allowed by public domain.

Negative. Not enough space on my drive /s. :laugh: Good old times where you could have tons of fun with a 24MB game.

Microsoft also has a page with all .NET installers listed. ;) Quite handy. Esp. when each game requires a certain version and doesn't run with a newer one, I believe.

Holy crap on a cracker, NFS Unbound is cheap atm, but thx @thesmokingman i wanted to get that game.
Indeed, banger deal. :) Historical low. But there's no way I am getting it on EPIC (only if it's free).

Lost Ruins free on gog.com

It could make for fine entertainment to try and decode each wrapper.

Any takers? (for this we might need to open a new thread).
