Hey guys, I have an aging 5700 XT, and I think its nearing the time for me to move on.
I'm thinking about getting a 7700 XT, since has a decently meaningful upgrade compared to going to the 7600.
I don't really care about RT, but I'd like to have a good encoder for video quality. I picked out the 7700 XT for AV1.
On top of that, should I get a 5700X3D (Or a 5800X3D depending on prices) to make sure it keeps up with the 7700 XT or just keep the 5600?
I mostly just play Overwatch (on higher settings than I should have), Beam.NG (with stupid mods) and emulate Xbox 360 games since my console died. All the other games are easy to run with what I have currently.

Your cpu is perfect for gaming.I got an 5600x version and plays games just as good as a 5950x.

any x3d will be nice still if you want to get one

Really?
Guess I underestimated Zen 3 without 3D cache

5700x3d, 5800x3d if you can find it because thats gone EOL.

I have a healthy market on Facebook marketplace, these CPU's consistently sell for 200 used

Really? Not here in NSW, I went looking a yr ago trying to get a good priced used 5800X3D and I couldnt find any for under $500 and there wasnt many out there ether so In the end i just bought it brand new fore a Xmas gift to myself.

Honestly if you can get one of those or the slight cheaper 5700X3D your AM4 system should be good for the next 5yrs, thats what I have done I upgraded from the 2700X to the 5800X3D 5yrs into the AM4 platform and ill get another 5. 7700XT also sounds like a good choice to me as I think the price has dropped alot since last yr?

IDK, Southeast QLD is full of rich people with 4090's.
If it comes to a worst-case scenario, I'll buy a 5700X3D for like 250 new

nvm its 350

i dont know where you buy your parts in queensland, but over in amazon 7700xt and 7800xt is $70 difference... so maybe consider that too

The 3D cache is good to have if you also have a high-end GPU and you're chasing ultra high frame rates, but it's not necessary by any means. As long as you're GPU limited, you won't feel much, if any difference.

im still on 1080p here
Kinda overkill

nah never, i thought it was overkill when i got my 3090 at that time but now at 1440p i need to drop settings in order to get higher fps...
but its up to you... i just think for 70usd for the extra perf and vram is worth it....

I agree, especially if one intends to keep their system for a longish time.

5 years minimum
The I'd suggest getting the best stuff you can afford. A 7900 XT even. But like it's been said, it's really up to you. :)

Agreed. Leave the CPU upgrade for later, otherwise it might look like you will end up with three upgrades in a shorter time span due to budget constaints for the first GPU, spreading the $ too thin like this:

7700 XT upgrade --> 3D CPU upgrade --> GPU upgrade again.

But yeah, do as you wish.

Link.

This test is done with a 7800X3D, so you would see smaller gains.

Sigh don’t remind me, apart from USA pretty much most countries have eye watery prices. Take New Zealand for example a 4090 cost over 4 thousand dollars….

1 AUD = 0.64 USD, so 566.05 AUD, or 362.27 USD isn't such a bad price. 719 AUD or 460 USD for the Sapphire Pulse is a bit too much, though. You can almost get a 7800 XT for that price here in the UK.

Oops, didn't search for a convertion, I assumed it was not that far but there's a big gap.

3070 looking good
Not playing games with crazy vram

If you can hold on a little longer. RDNA4 will be here very very soon. We're talking about 1-5months if we ignore December.

It could be out before the end of this year (wishful thinking) or early next year.

Unlike most insects in Aus, it wont kill you to wait if you can hold on.

Sure, but 5 years is a long time here, maybe needing >8 GB isn't that crazy 3 years from now.

I mean PS5 have had more than 8 (closer to 13 - 14 GB usable for the game itself) for over 5 years now, and x86 consoles do influence x86 game development overall.

yea ik, i always wait for the next gen or 2 for price drops for products now

I'd keep the 5600X which is fine for gaming and put everything into GPU.

4070 Ti Super etc.

Eventually move to 1440p.

NV encoder much better than AMD.
