No it doesn't. That's an old wives' tale from ancient history.
That's like saying you have to check your car's tire pressures every couple days because tubes leak. Essentially every OLED TV and monitor made in the last 10 years have built-in image retention mitigation features. And with each new generation of OLED technologies, those features are greatly enhanced to mitigate those potential issues even further.
You essentially have to "abuse" a modern OLED TV/monitor to create permanent burn-in problems. You do NOT have to "baby" it to prevent them.
Yes, retention is still possible - but that typically is when used in a scenario like airport flight information displays, ATM machines, and the like where much of the exact same image is being displayed 24/7/365.
Read
your manual. Note on page 64 where it talks specifically about image retention, and how, "Pixel Refresh" is automatically activated (next time the monitor goes into sleep/standby mode) after 4 hours of use. To prevent permanent retention caused by static content (news channel or bank logos, for example, of fixed taskbars), "Panel" Refresh is automatically activated after 9,000 (yes, 9 thousand) hours of use. Does 9,000 hours sound like babying? That is more than a year.
That monitor also uses Pixel Shifting. This function, when it detects the exact same image has been displayed for extended periods, "shifts" the displayed image 1 or 2 pixels left, right, up, or down. This is all that is needed to change what each pixel is doing.
And remember, there are over 3.6 million pixels on that monitor so you are not going to see this shift.
My advice?
1. Do NOT dink with the default settings. Leave them be.
2. Enjoy your monitor - you got a great one!
