Dream Monitor Ideas

@Space Lynx Corning don't answer my question regarding where I can buy their glass of desired size but I already have a defilmed monitor ready for experiments (MSI G2712) and a Compit HA2704 awaiting the same procedure.

I'm not surprised by this, I imagine they only do bulk volume sales.

LOL

And I remember when 64Kb (as in kilo) of RAM was "more than we will ever need".

LOL LOL

Sorry, but you clearly have tunnel vision, seeing only your preferences as the only way that makes sense to compute.

Don't get me wrong - I've been using a multi-monitor setup since W98 because I wanted more space. But note that is primarily horizontal space. I don't mind moving my head back and forth, back and forth. But up and down and up and down too? No thanks.
That is why it is called PC.

I just got an email about an hour ago from Dough. 480hz OLED QHD panels are shipping from them soon. They have a pretty good track record recently, I am very very tempted...

GIVE ME THE GLASS!!!! no other companies are giving me the glass, so this may be my stop. people don't realize that glass makes it just slightly sharper than regular QHD, its so damn perfect.

I think this is my stop lads, I just... can't stop myself... I always felt this was the perfect size for 1440p, but wanted it just slightly sharper, and 480hz OLED and all the other benefits from the glass and latest panel... I don't see a better price coming for a long long time. So, yeah I think this is it for me lads, its been nice knowing y'all, I see no reason to post here further, I am heading to heaven lads!
Go for it man, you deserve to be happy

Dreams Come True... price dropped(back to) $1,599...it "looks" fine in DCS @7860x2160 on an RTX4090. I set it up yesterday but didn't spend much time in the cockpit because, well College Football and my wife coming home from her trip. Anyhow...come on ASUS RTX5090...we're waiting...

In the future you might want to consider high end VR for a sim setup. I know optimum tech has done two videos on it and was so impressed he got rid of his big monitors because VR sim racing/flying is so much more immersive.

He mentions the Quest 3 VR headset is also impressive, so you if you want to try sim flying on a budget maybe try a Quest 3 VR setup for $499, and then you could compare between that nice monitor and VR. Maybe even try the Meta Quest 3S that is coming out in December I think, that one will only be $299 and is basically the same thing as the $499 one. Then you could compare if you like VR sim or not.

his newest video on it is above and older one below

That's a really competitive price. If they make cut on customer support, it will be a bit of gambling. I don't know this company so I can't really judge the quality and service.

I have a rift S and I already tested sim on a 3800X1440p 144Hz and I prefer the rift S even if it's a bit blurry considering the lower resolution of this headset.
I play ETS2 and Dirt rally 2.0 and I prefer having the feeling of depth rather than a better visual experience. It makes everything you see much more natural to estimate distances and I feel more precise while doing sharp turn.

No it doesn't. That's an old wives' tale from ancient history.

That's like saying you have to check your car's tire pressures every couple days because tubes leak. Essentially every OLED TV and monitor made in the last 10 years have built-in image retention mitigation features. And with each new generation of OLED technologies, those features are greatly enhanced to mitigate those potential issues even further.

You essentially have to "abuse" a modern OLED TV/monitor to create permanent burn-in problems. You do NOT have to "baby" it to prevent them.

Yes, retention is still possible - but that typically is when used in a scenario like airport flight information displays, ATM machines, and the like where much of the exact same image is being displayed 24/7/365.

Read your manual. Note on page 64 where it talks specifically about image retention, and how, "Pixel Refresh" is automatically activated (next time the monitor goes into sleep/standby mode) after 4 hours of use. To prevent permanent retention caused by static content (news channel or bank logos, for example, of fixed taskbars), "Panel" Refresh is automatically activated after 9,000 (yes, 9 thousand) hours of use. Does 9,000 hours sound like babying? That is more than a year.

That monitor also uses Pixel Shifting. This function, when it detects the exact same image has been displayed for extended periods, "shifts" the displayed image 1 or 2 pixels left, right, up, or down. This is all that is needed to change what each pixel is doing.

And remember, there are over 3.6 million pixels on that monitor so you are not going to see this shift.

My advice?

1. Do NOT dink with the default settings. Leave them be.
2. Enjoy your monitor - you got a great one!
Late reply but there is one real issue that should be tackled with OLED. It should be mentioned when it does a pixel refresh. It's the main reason why Rtings.com had to completely remade their testing procedure for their insane stress test.

I get why you been harping about glossy glass OLED screen now @Space Lynx I been encoding Star Wars 4k77 for my phone and watching them on such screen is simply breathtaking even if it small.

at the size scale of a monitor it has even more noticeable improvements too. it really is like a free resolution upgrade in sharpness, imagine a 24" 1440p crispness but at the standard 27" size, that's what proper glass does on a monitor. it's also one of the reasons 4k LG OLED's their c series line of tv's always looking beyond stunning.

Those monitor is really a dream for me as even the cheapest costs as much as my salary :banghead:

The sad part is, the MSI Rapid VA 5000:1 27" 1440p monitor would honestly make me not want OLED anymore, but only if it had a Corning Glass screen. It's only $159, I imagine a flat version with glass would maybe bring the price up to $199 if mass produced at volume. I don't really care about HDR as I said before, but yeah, lack of creative development in the RnD department for all these monitor makers is the real thing holding back budget bang for buck monitors. We have everything we need already, they just refuse to put the glass on.

Hmm prices for these rapid VA seems attractive I might buy one, thanks! One thing about IPS is I don't like IPS glow really, VA panel have deeper blacks.

Now that Rapid VA is here, at 4000:1 or 5000:1, I would honestly do that instead. I recommend keeping an eye out for any MSI monitor with Rapid VA listed on the box. I'd avoid all other VA's personally.

I want to buy a G4 LG for my desk. I don't mind the 55inch screen at all. I love large displays. When they start making 42in 4k OLEDS with higher than 240hertz, I'll upgrade from my C2.

Until then one can dream.

from that article, as I said all along:

"The gorilla glass on the Dough looks a little cleaner and smoother."

the real king is LG C series... damn that is nice

Another nice thing about glass, I just squished a bug on my laptop glass screen. Was so easy to clean up after. Matte sometimes it can get a bit icky

One simple observation. If I get 2160p 42" screen, it has 104,90 PPI in comparison to 108,79 PPI of my 1440p 27" monitor. The text and other elements will still be too small IMO, if we consider exclusively native res, and scaling. And getting a higher PPI screen to set it at 125% scaling or more is defeating its purpose right away, and is a waste of resources. I really regret getting a 1440p 27" and not 32" as everything on it is just too tiny, even at recommended 50cm view distance.

On the other hand, 2160p 48" has 91,79 PPI, which is identical what 1080p 24" has, and I find it much better. 2160p 55" has 80,11 PPI, and I guess it's even more desirable at ≥100cm view distance.

Any thoughts from 2160p ≥42" users?

I like Driving games. My dream monitor would have flip out mini screens I could use for rear view and side view mirrors that when not racing, would fold up behind the main monitor. Or leave them out and assign for system monitoring, apps that could utilize the smaller screens. But these are built in essentially, part of the monitor.

Simple drawing, this isn't my strong point lol. But illustrates kind of what I mean.

I think my dream monitor would be about 36" and 5k resolution, but have a physical switch somewhere in easy reach that would halve the resolution to 1440p. Some sort of secret sauce pixel format that could eliminate all scaling issues; just be two different resolutions utilizing whole screen estate.

what do you guys think of corsair monitors?
