TPU's WCG/BOINC Team

I've just cancelled a load of my jobs because some hadn't started and that won't reach the server in time anyways, so its pointless (excuse the bad but nicely timed pun!!) as it's just going to sit there doing nothing, so I'll move over a few machines over to something else and see what they do like :)

I do wonder why they are taking it offline for so long and more importantly if it will ever come back online afterwards.....
I didn't read the entire thread on WCG forum so I don't know if the changed the deadline for jobs in progress, but I wouldn't be surprised if they missed that strong suggestion from members.

Since the the Rosetta download problem seem to be a Android and Linux thing the issued jobs will last longer. I did a 777 in order to overwrite my hosts file on one system and switched to Windows on another. Both download fine but it hurts my eyes to see the points drop going from Linux to Windows. As far as I know I'm the only active Linux Rosetta contributor on our team so I will spare you from a rant about the trouble it gave me to get boinc-files.barkerlab.org to the correct IP

They're moving the website and the project over to some other server or something. I only skimmed through the article, but that seems to be the gist of it.

What's wrong with Rosetta on Linux?

I used to be on Einstein@Home (I love everything outer space), but I switched to WCG because of my mum's situation with cancer. She passed away exactly a month ago, so it's a very personal matter to me.

I thought I'd switch back to Einstein during the shutdown, but if Rosetta has anything to do with cancer, then I might as well register there. Then, it would be the two of us on Linux... if it's problem-free, that is.

Rosetta seems to feed from one of the Linux feeders, the one with an expired SLL cert. You need to point to a working IP meaning adding a line in local/ect/hosts. A write protected file, so 777 (less can do it).

I have issues with Rosetta on Linux, just saying. Allegedly there are workarounds but I just wait until they might have resolvedn it on their end if possible.

And sorry about your mother.

Upps, missed your box. :)

I got a feeling that the fix from their side is not going to happen overnight. They have been informed but it's been years since they have replied to any e-mails or forum posts, at least public on the forum.

@AusWolf Yes I second the sorry statment about the passing of your mother. Lost my wife a few years back and an aunt last week to cancer.

I'll leave it at that, then. My PCs deserve some rest until WCG is back in action anyway.

Thanks. I'm sorry about your loss, too. Losing a wife must be equally hard as losing one's mother, I imagine. :(

@AusWolf and @mstenholm I'm sorry to hear about both of your losses.. I can only begin to imagine what loosing a Mum is like and its something that I'm not looking forward to having to go through when the evitable happens with my parents. It's a real pants bit of life to have to deal with and I don't wish it on anyone..

Maybe we could do something in the new year or something about a giveaway or something, do something in both their 'honours' so to speak?? Unless you both don't wish to, just thought it might have been nice to hopefully welcome the project back online, whenever that might be and maybe to drum up a little cheer and joy in January cos everyone knows it sucks in the New Year  Perfectly happy to take any and all suggestions, including, bogoff!! :D :D

Thanks and agreed. I wouldn't wish this onto my worst enemy even if I had one. More than a month has passed, and I still feel like I'm only an empty shell of myself, doing things automatically rather than consciously. I don't know if I'll ever be me again.

I don't know how giveaways work, but I'm up for anything. :)

More so, the back of my brain is thinking about swapping my beloved 7800X3D for a 7950X just to crunch more (the X3D and 9950X are too expensive). I'd probably regret it at some point because gaming is still part of my life even though I haven't been enjoying it too much lately, but this b!tch we call cancer has to go. I think crunching is a bigger weapon against it than any money donation.

I believe it too mate, I don't think the money is ever going to be enough as it seems to go elsewhere I feel than directly to the cause of the problem... I guess this is the problem with money, people can make it disappear or whatever you wish to say about it but I'm not going to go down that rabbit hole... It's dangerous and I'm not :D:D

I hope you feel better soon, if there's anything that we can do here, just message me directly or even put a post/thread. No one at TPU is ever alone :) :lovetpu:  :lovetpu:

Hello TPU Folding and Crunching Team. We are giving away two complete rigs in Kreij's memory. Check out the link and enter the drawing if you qualify. They could be a nice little addition to your stable.

This is awesome!! Thank you Bogmali :)

It looks like WCG is back up.

Nice! I completely missed all the work I wanted on my two crunching HTPCs during the break, though. :ohwell: (family came first)

I wanted to get a passive block onto the 11700, disable its turbo (for the sake of power and silence - it's important in a PC running 24/7), then give both machines a proper cleaning and potentially a Linux install.

Hello everyone,
Been away a while but I'm back for some full-time crunching.

I'm not sure if its just me or something, but none of my jobs are going back to WCG.... Is anyone else on stop at the moment??

Same here. Problem with the servers, I guess? :(

Dang it!! :( I hope they can sort it out as the one day I can get everything on and its broken!! Maybe it was me?!?!? :D:D I hope not!!

Has anyone seen or had some of these newer BETA work units at all??

I've seen a few on my crunchers, this was taken from my 7980XE rig, and noticed them again on my 5900X rig too, like below...

25-04-25 WCG New tasks Beta Mapping Arthritis 1 75 days!!.png

I cancelled them off as the remaining time was just going up and up and they had been running for about 8 hours some of them... Just curious if anyone else had seen them??

I haven't, although I've had a stuck WU or two in the last week.

I have one also. It's been running for 2 days and stuck at .5%.

I have a feeling they aren't going to get any better or finish at all... I've noticed a couple more running on my machines now... I will report back if anything changes!!

Does the percentage even move on them?

I have some, just checked. I will look again in the morning to see what happens.

Not from what I saw mate no... I don't know what happened to the others, I can't remember if I binned them off or let them carry on, I'll take a look and report back if I can :)
