Let's seeseeme pics of it. Looks like a common mistake but fixable. Link to ribbon cable. I still want to see pics of it and the new shell. lol I want to do it but I might buy some ribbon cables just to have on hand.. lol
It has been about 3 months since I pierced a ribbon. I was disheartened and set the steam deck aside. I only recently made a post. Opening up the steam deck again, the pierced ribbon goes to one of the track pads.

I still don't have display output though. I pulled everything out today and double checked everything. The mb ribbons are secured well. The display has power but doesn't display anything.

I'm trying to decide what skin to buy for my Deck OLED... I'd like to get something.

29 bucks for this design, but i kind of like it. i usually play in the dark, so i won't see a skin anyway most oft he time.

anyone have any experience with dbrand skins? is it worth it? i watched the video on how to install it, it seems pretty easy, just have to take your time

this is a glow in the dark skin for it, 35 bucks. but i honestly don't know if i would really love that or if i'd just find it distracting... hmm.

I was considering a dbrand case for my phone until I asked myself if I was really going to spend US$50 on a phone case; I then realized that a case that cost 80% less would suffice. I'm not going to tell you to not buy a skin for your Steam Deck, especially if you would really enjoy seeing it; however, *I* think there are better ways to spend $30-40 than a skin. That might just be my frugality speaking, though ;)

It was my understanding that one can basically source all the parts for the Steam Deck. If you wanted to build a Steam Deck rather then buy one, you might be able to do it. The point being that if you need a new cable you should be able to get it. If all else fails you could probably sell it citing the minor defect(s). There are a lot of people that would like to take a crack at fixing it. Just don't let them haggle you down too low over a lousy cable.

some of the skins for steam deck OLED only cost $19.99 just fyi. it's actually not that bad on price. the premium skins are expensive yes, i won't be doing those though.

For me it depends on how I look at it: Not bad to pay $20 to transform the look of the Steam Deck or horrific to pay $20 for a bunch of vinyl stickers that dbrand is probably marking up 20x. Again, this is me being a stingy person who looks at value objectively.

In other news today, a Steam Deck engineering prototype was sold on eBay for $3000

I wonder if we'll ever find out what those steamboxes (prototype steam computers that VALVE had manufactured and given to their developers, presumably for VR development) ever were used for making the Steam Deck? or if any of their hardware was eventually used as inspiration for them? Its been reported by at least one person who owns a prototype (see bringus studios, hes a really funny and cool channel) that it does contain all AMD hardware and has a weird BIOS and everything. Has integrated Steam controller support and everything too.

It's a really good watch. Overall theres not much interesting going on in terms of steam stuff besides what I already mentioned, but its a strange lil machine. I figured I'd mention it because it seems like these machines were manufactured around a similar time as the Valve Index. Possibly was used to develop for them too.

I mean it is all AMD hardware, only thing that doesnt match up with the steam deck is the lack of linux. And the computer was seemingly wiped before bringus got it, so.. chances it could of had a linux distro on it, and the two people who sold it to him put a windows install over it instead and deleted the distro & everything else. Who knows.

The biggest thing for me is how Nintendo just simply doesn't give a crap about ergonomics. I would've been a lot more interested if they made it designed for human hands.
I didnt think it looked that bad honestly; I mean nothing will ever be as bad as the Nin64 Controller. I get why they did it but its still so weird.. not necessarily bad ergos though.

If someone were to install bazzite on one of these and they would have one hell of a steam console. It wouldn't be hard for valve to do the same thing. I doubt they would use hardware this powerful though. https://www.bee-link.com/products/beelink-ser9-ai-9-hx-370
I mean they aren't that powerful, and they're also rare as hell, the version Bringus owning isnt even the same as the first one we saw which was in the Final Hours of HL Alyx. I'm pretty sure he did manage to hack an actual steamos onto it but later changed it to bazzite as actual steamos is very buggy outside of the hardware its designed for, as I think everyone knows lol

It isn't as powerful as having a dedicated GPU, but as far as APU's go it is about as good as your are going to get. It is a hell of a lot more powerful than the steam deck.

Oh no I was referring to the steam computer.. as it had a RX 580 & I think a Ryzen 1700? Or something like that. The Steam Deck is not as powerful I dont think but it makes it up in many ways.

For you lot that have upgraded the SSD in your Steam Deck to a larger capacity, what did you do with the original one?

I used an external drive enclosure to copy everything to the new drive. Then I swapped them both, so now I have a 64GB external SSD. I'll get a larger drive at some point and exile the 64GB to the parts bin.

rog ally and legion go owners now have access to SteamOS

took longer than i thought it would honestly, but yeah the day is here. i kind of regret refunding the rog ally i tried now, but i just read so many horror stories about the analog sticks breaking down and they don't have an open repair policy like steam deck does, so i got cold feet and refunded it last year.

personally, im just going to wait for steam deck 2. hopefully valve comes through.

Rumour has it that a steam deck announcement will be in 2027, valve is waiting for substantial hardware progress before making the steam deck 2…

z2 extreme RoG Ally is said to be revealed at computex later this month, may 20th i believe.

$899 min price tag though, i think the z1 extreme rog ally x costs 799? its reached a point that i actually don't give a fuck, so yeah i will pass on that. if it was like 599 and had the z2 extreme in it and steamos out of the box, i would consider it.

Just like it should be with every product. Having a new generation of everything regardless of any performance uplift only generates unnecessary e-waste.

yep pretty much this.. go tell that to asus...

I was playing Terraria with some friends last night with this great setup. It actually makes some sense because CRTs look fine at lower resolutions, which works well with the Steam Deck's somewhat limited power. You can catch a tiny glimpse of my Sony Vaio slimtop under the table.

Have any of you played around with undervolting and/or overclocking your steam deck? Did you see a noticeable change in performance or battery life? How far were you able to undervolt/overclock?

Signing up already, I'll buy one as used from an online friend in the end of the month. :toast:

Cool. What price are you buying it for and what are you planning to play with it?

220EUR (64GB model with 512GB memory card, I'll get a 1TB NVMe later for it), maaybe I'll revisit Life is Strange titles first, then some older Final Fantasies. Does Deck run GTA IV?
