DOOM: The Dark Ages Performance Benchmark

I’m hear for the crashouts. I’m basically playing it on gamepass at 1080p with a 6800XT Ultra nightmare w/ framegen, no upscale, and I’m going to have a blast. Peace out.

DOOM: The Dark Ages Performance Benchmark Review

  • We used the recommended review drivers for the game from both AMD and NVIDIA, which are game-ready, and the newest driver from Intel.
  • Please note that the NVIDIA driver (576.40) that we used is newer than the first press driver for the game (576.31). The new build includes performance

The bold color text on dark theme like here W1z should absolutely fix... or not we're lucky to finally have a dark theme at all.

You can see it that way. You can also see it as Nvidia bribing game developers to optimise for their technology to gain an unfair advantage. Take your pick.
Can we stop with the "ngreedia bribing"? That's proven to not be true again and again. Nvidia sponsored games run better on AMD than non nvidia sponsored games. Check the freaking poster child of nvidia, cyberpunk. It runs faster on AMD hardware than your average game does (im talking about raster performance).

You know what's bribing? Seeing much slower amd cards be much faster than nvidia cards because it's an amd sponsored game. Dirt 5 - ac valhala - starfield, and the list goes on and on, where a gpu that is 2 tiers down matches gpu 2 tiers up. That is not the case with nvidia sponsored games.

AMD's bribing, Nvidia's bribing, everyone's bribing... I'm not on about that stuff. What I wanted to say is whether you use the word "bribing" or "helping developers create the best gaming experience" is your choice, and you would be equally right.

Let's not turn this into an AMD vs Nvidia flame war, please. I'm so tired of that childish shit.

Are you really tired of it? You said the below like 12 hours ago...
Nvidia fans every time a new game comes out: "Boo hoo, AMD doesn't have day 1 drivers!"

Look at the situation now.

The RX6600/6600XT don't handle this game very well, huh? (even on 1080p Med, going by HWU's results) Guess it's time to ditch my 6650XT soon. A lot of games have come out since I got the card, but this is the first one that I really want to play where turning down settings won't cut the mustard.

I find Windows 11 Professional 64-bit 24H2 and previous versions very very unstable with constant Blue Screens.
I am back to Windows 10 Pro 64-bit & its stable, not one BSOD, no game crashes no nothing.

Am I missing something here? Why is it only testing on the highest setting

That's the standard method for benchmarking. It means an even playing field for all GPUs. And the review notes that turning down settings only provides a ~20-30% boost.

That's not against Nvidia. That's against hardcore Nvidia fans. :p

He clicks like on every post that craps on nvidia, so I assume he is tired of people not crapping on nvidia.
I click like on every post I agree with. It's got nothing to do with Nvidia. If you post that the 8 GB 9060 XT is a ripoff for $450, for example (in the appropriate thread of course), I'll put a like to that, too.

It's funny how you Nvidia folks only see it when someone craps on your favourite brand, and conveniently ignore the bigger picture about the person.

You'll forgive me though if they're interpreted as the same in context to "AMD vs Nvidia flame war". It's fairly transparent to others.

@W1zzard
I hope you don't mind, this gameplay review from Clint over at LGR seems most fitting and complimentary to your great technical review.
Everyone should watch this if you want a viewpoint from LGR and some great insights.
I will not spoil anything, and neither does Clint.

I said what I said and I'm holding myself to that. What else you imagine into my post, or how you "interpret it" is up to you, and I'll take no responsibility for that (as if I had to take any responsibility for having an opinion, but that's another matter).

I see there's no way to fit a word in edgewise with you, so I'm done arguing.

I really hope you do, and that you're honest with yourself too, the rest have already figured it out.

What rest? What have they figured out? Just out with it man, I'm really not in the mood for this passive aggressive bullshit.

Whenever I say something that contains the words "Nvidia" or "Nvidia fans" in a negative or sarcastic context, you have to jump at my throat like I killed someone. Every. Fucking. Time. I'm sick of it.

That is true, but that is kinda the point I'm making. That the things you agree with are 97% of the time agregiously anti nvidia. Eg you like - therefore agree with every post from a guy that admitted he hates nvidia.

He can hate Nvidia all he wants. I don't. I only hate Nvidia's current pricing and marketing. What I really hate is fanboyism (like the example above). If I put a like on a post, that's because I agree with that post. It's got nothing to do with the person making the post. I don't know why you'd think that it's about the person. We're all just user names here.

Besides, if he hates Nvidia, then what? He can't have an opinion and share it like the rest of us?

See that's what I mean, you are being completely non objective as well. You hate nvidia pricing - yet amds pricing is the same or even worse across the freaking globe. Eg the 9070xt currently is more expensive than the 5070ti in the US even though it's objectively a worse gpu. And I'm not even going to talk about the non xt pricing which is an abomination. Yet you don't like nvidias pricing....what?

The 9070 XT is a good £70 cheaper than the 5070 Ti over here (not to mention I got mine for MSRP - well over £150 cheaper than the current price tag on the 5070 Ti, while the 5070 Ti was never available for MSRP). And no, it is not an objectively worse GPU. It runs Linux natively, without the need to fiddle with proprietary drivers. It also has traditional, 8-pin power connectors, which I think is a plus. If you don't care about any of that, that's fine. But I do.

And I don't have an effing clue about US pricing because I don't live there. The world isn't America, you know.

So, no, when I say "I hate Nvidia's pricing", I'm not being objective. I'm sharing my personal opinion based on what I'm seeing and experiencing within my reach compared to my needs and what I consider useful and worth spending money on in a GPU. Like everybody else, I have my own use case and preferences. Is there a problem with that?

Its 70 cheaper in your region - but it's a slower card, especially in RT where the difference is 20%. So again, objectively, the price isn't really any better than nvidias. And that's in your specific region, cause in other regions it's even more expensive than the 70ti. And even if we pretend they are both equal, a 70 pound difference makes you HATE nvidias pricing? While completely ignoring the overpriced POS that is the non xt 9070?

So basically you hate nvidia pricing because you live in GB where one model of the nvidia is 10% more expensive than a worse (let's say slightly) amd card, and if you lived in EU you'd be hating amd pricing? Does that make sense to you? If yes, sure, let's just move on.

What rest? What have they figured out? Just out with it man
The double standard, the times you're called out (with receipts) and deny, entrench yourself or gaslight, the false equivalences, and overall it's the disparity between how you say you act, and how you actually act.
Whenever I say something that contains the words "Nvidia" or "Nvidia fans" in a negative or sarcastic context
It's far from whenever - you're very active here, and this time it was because you said two very conflicting things within a very short timeframe.
