Windows 12

Are you ready for next Windows, Windows 12?

If you mean DXR, it is like PhysX, the sooner it dies, the better for the community.
Adding new "features" is not making a new DirectX version, just like adding new service packs in Windows doesn't make it a new OS.

DX 12 has three versions - the version at launch 12.0, then 12.1 and now 12.2 which was released 4 years ago. The original was launched 10 years ago.
By far the longest serving version of them all.

1. It will never die, embrace it
2. The API has nothing to do with your qualms
3. These are merely landmarks, the actual capabilities have been developed and built over the years, at a pace never seen before

There comes a time you need to humble yourself and admit you're wrong

a new SDK dropped... a week ago

And so what? Today there have been several Windows Defender updates, too.
So, what did that "new SDK" bring to the table which made DX a new, modern version which corresponds to year 2025, and not to year 2015?

Does this mean that Microsoft lied that Windows 10 was the last Windows ever, but they mean that DX 12 is the last DirectX version ever?

Stuff you wouldn't even understand, frankly. But important stuff. And he was talking about Vulkan anyways.

That's how it is. A lot of the important updates don't really translate to consumer speak, so they get little fanfare.

I guess the real question I have for you is what do you believe DX12 is lacking to make it modern?

Judging by the OP - “unlimited detail technology”… whatever that is. Probably a secret blood ritual conducted by Todd Howard to achieve 40 times the detail.

The magic word is AI :D

My safe word is pineapple juice.

Another thing which MUST be added to improve the user experience - automatically switch the input method according to the language on the viewed website or of the viewed content.

With the current state of 11 24H2 and the direction Windows as a whole is headed, sticking with 10 IoT LTSC 2021 till 2032. Definitely not ready for Windows 12 and what it'll entail.

That'll be a problem my digital doppelganger can deal with...

It's ok. English (uk) and English (yankie) has bugged me for years though. France-french, spain-spanish, germany-german, England-English, America-English US, sorry but it should be America-American just because we owned their asses for a while, they think they can own our language.

But anyway, will there even be a windows 12? will M$ just come up with something new, Windows AI(copyright tigger :p)

Should be Native American, the languages of the native Indian tribes.

But anyway, will there even be a windows 12?

How would Microsoft otherwise hide the flop that Windows 11 is. Windows 11 is just unpleasant on all possible fronts - slow, heavy, doesn't run on many computers, including Ryzen 2000 mobile series, has terrible user interface, lacks features and the user interface is slower than on Windows 10 which requires less mouse clicks to reach a destination in the settings / apps / menus, etc.

You must be joking that they would rely on that so primitive technology. They can't even automate simple things like the language input, what happens to other more complex tasks like assisting the user in his daily tasks and decision making.
That bubble must burst, the sooner the better. Focus on something else - like a new DirectX which enables true-to-life graphics / gaming environments.

Does it matter what I think about being ready for it? Not really.

i'm going to keep being an admin. I'm going to continue to support clients networks, hardware, and software.

So I'll learn windows 12, and I will use it.......like it or not. Just as I have done before.

Because obviously the API is the bottleneck there... right?

Unreal 5 has Nanite which is maybe the beginning in this direction.
Nanite Virtualized Geometry in Unreal Engine | Unreal Engine 5.0 Documentation
  • Multiple orders of magnitude increase in geometry complexity, higher triangle and objects counts than has been possible before in real-time
  • Frame budgets are no longer constrained by polycounts, draw calls, and mesh memory usage
  • Now possible to directly import film-quality source arts, such as ZBrush sculpts and photogrammetry scans
  • Use high-poly detailing rather than baking detail into normal map textures
  • Level of Detail (LOD) is automatically handled and no longer requires manual setup for individual mesh's LODs
  • Loss of quality is rare or non-existent, especially with LOD transitions

Unlimited Detail:
