ODIN 2 PORTAL FOR HOME STREAMING MY GAMES!

Can finally hang out with my wife in the living room and bedroom watching funny reality tv shows while I game - little to no lag and little to no visual fidelity loss

I heard capxon ain't great

Tier 3

For some reason I keep a box of failed electrolytic capacitors; the most common failure is CapXon followed by Ltec

When replacing electrolytic capacitors, I tend to stick to Tier 1
  • Rubycon
  • United Chemi-Con
  • Nichicon
but Teapo (Tier 2) seem to also make good capacitors

Finally bit the bullet for new GPU after thinking about it for almost 3 years + a new monitor. GPU was almost at EUR MSRP - 689 vs 715 - which was the main reason.

XFX Swift AMD Radeon RX 9070XT Triple Fan Gaming Edition (the name could not possibly be longer...)
AOC Q27G3XMN

My 1070 Ti had served me very well for 6 years, but it had to go. Monitor was 11 years old XL2411Z.

That monitor, you cannot bet it work the price with it's HDR1000 certification, I were about to buy it until I got my hands on my KTC Play M2720S which has almost double the local zones count of 576 local dimming zones where the AOC only have 336 local dimming zones.

Please tell us about the experience @Easo with that AOC monitor :toast:

There are a lot of crap brands out there. Diss on the crap brands, not the country they're made in. There are MANY excellent brands who make quality parts that come out of China.
but in india there is a stigma attached to chinese products, i also don't like stereotypes. But that's how most indian view them, i also dislike this perception about them. Even chatgpt said capxon 105c caps are worse than japanese 85c caps

And in the rest of the world there is a stigma attached to Indian products. Both perspectives are utter hog-wash.
i also don't like stereotypes.
Likewise.
But that's how most indian view them
India, much like some of the rest of the world, needs to change it's perspective to a merit-based view instead of the nonsensical thinking now employed.
Even chatgpt said capxon 105c caps are worse than japanese 85c caps
That's is an error. Stop letting AI think for you. There are less than great brands in Japan too. The Japanese/Taiwanese are not all perfect just like the Chinese/Indian are not all terrible. Such thinking is flawed and meritless.

I basically went with RTINGS.com review (there are way too many gaming monitors out there...) where it is their best budget gaming monitor as of right now.

It basically is exactly as reviews everywhere are saying - bright, nice colors, don't look at it from sides, yada yada. Stand is stable and feels solid, basically no wobbling.
No red tint issue noticed for me after a week of use notice, VRR generally seems to work fine (only noticed in Persona 5 that during intro cursor leaves a trail, yet nothing in actual gameplay, probably because game has limited framerates).

Honestly first time hearing about KTC, had to google them and, unsurprisingly, no one is selling them in Latvia. Their EU site seems to be missing bunch of models as well compared to US (where it seems it would be more expensive). Reddits says they are fine for budget aside from questionable support.

Going to spend some more time fiddling with settings, this is my first HDR screen after all.

Sorry for the cable mess—I'm almost done with my ITX build. Haven’t bought the GPU yet. Just testing things out for now, and the iGPU is performing better than I expected!

as a service tech the best capacitors are (for long life) (in order (best last) (1980-2000)

United chemi-con
Rubycon ties with enla
Teapo (normally perfect but dislikes heat if 85c)
Panasonic ties with Nichicon

(all are normally fine though)

Good chinese caps are fine but theres alot of bad ones

normally panasonic/teapo/nichicon caps only fail if the circuit is badly designed/too much heat for low temp caps even after 40 year of use
I have seen some psus in super cheap cd players totally burn the pcb to nothing over time from low quality cheapo design

best to get psus with Japanese caps :)

Yeah KTC as a brand has been around for a long time usually with their fingers in the peripheral market KB's and mice and other things to plug into your USB ports

Teapo (normally perfect but dislikes heat if 85c)
They're the reason my HDD caddie died and early death the heat in the PSU for it cooked the caps and killed the circuit board bad enough that just replacing those shitty caps with much better 105c rubycon ones didn't even bring it back to life

Nice Seiko but you should also look into Citizen and Casio watches
Citizen and Casio...what are those? They build and sell dishwashers and sandwich makers iirc, what, they build and sell watches too? Thanks for the info, i'll google those.

Ordered a Wera PH2 screwdriver since I sold the old BeQuiet one together with DR4 and was missing a nice quality one:

Should be here on Wednesday.

One of these arrived yesterday.

just got this for £28, dunno why it says £113 though :) Apparently these are pretty good keyboards. Not fussed about the pan-nordic layout as it is still basically qwerty.

I can't tell you how much I despise iFixIt for not including a proper narrow shaft screwdriver extension. I'm going to have to get one of these.

Nitro is coming...stay tuned for pics ;)

There's no such thing as a "pan Nordic" layout though, we have different layouts, so this is some new dumb shit the keyboard makers have come up with to have fewer SKUs.
Sweden and Finland have the same layout, but Norway and Denmark are different and Denmark has their version of Ä and Ö reversed to everyone else. And then there's Iceland that does their own thing entirely that wouldn't work with a "pan Nordic" layout.
That doesn't even take some of the other keys with special characters into account. I really hate this race to the bottom.
At least UK ISO keyboards are mostly similar and it's not that hard to get used to, unlike ANSI keyboards which are horrible to type on.

Finally went wireless on the mouse:

MCHOSE K7 Ultra, basically Viper V3 clone with 8K dongle and Omron Optical switches. The nice feature is that the 8K dongle has wireless charging so you just put the mouse on the dock and bam - charging.

Got a used Netgear Nighthawk RAX70 v1 router ($125) and TPlink RE450 v4 wifi extender ($30), I'm using the extender as a wifi adapter. Adding a router to a Starlink setup makes a big difference. Click to enlarge.

The RE450 is such a scam, they did V1 and V2 and then discontinued the V1 with no more firmware updates or anything and then they killed the product entirely, just to bring it back a few years later. Yes, I had a V1 and I'm still pissed with TP-Link about it. Ended up putting OpenWRT on it, but a firmware upgrade killed it in the end.
It does at least work alright, but it's very old hardware in them by now.
The technical term is a WiFi bridge for what you're doing ;)

Idk about all that but it hasn't failed me once but it needed a fw update to get it to work with wpa3 security. I hear bad things about every company though so at this point I just checked that it was going to work ok (didn't know the version of either when I bought them) and had decent reviews (almost all 4-5star).

I'm going to get a TP-Link Wireless BE11000 Wi-Fi 7 range extender as soon as I have enough money and it goes on sale since we can't get the good 6000mbps wifi6 repeaters in Canada it is my only choice for high speed.

Razer Deathadder v3 hyperspeed, bought from amazon warehouse, like new for almost half the price. Shape is a bit smaller and more comfortable than the viper ultimate.

Yeah, mine never got that update, nor the one for the WPA2 KRACK vulnerability. Yet the V2 got the updates and it's technically a lower cost model as they cut the RAM in half.
As far as TP-Link goes, this is not uncommon, some of their more popular router models have 5-6 different versions, where they drop support for older versions as soon as they can.
Netgear has at least been half decent in that aspect, I had an R7800 for seven years, although I ended up running an alternative firmware by Voxel on that the last few years. Sadly he only supports a few devices, none of which are recent.

WiFi range extenders seems to be kind of dead these days, I ended up using multiple routers in the end, as we used to live in a three storey building, but with pretty high ceilings on the ground floor and thick concrete and metal floors, so the WiFi signals wouldn't really reach further than one floor. I got an Asus GT-AX6000 now and it's pretty good, but the 2.4 GHz radio is a bit weak, which is odd, but the whole place gets covered by the 5 GHz band at good signal strength, so it's not an issue, plus almost all rooms are wired up with at least two Ethernet sockets.
If you're not space constrained, I'd look at getting a cheaper router instead of of the range extender.

TCL QM6K Pro Series 65". Pro Series is code for US retailer specified SKU with panel from next highest model in lineup which nominally intends to improve reflections and contrast.
Club 3D HDMI 2.1 cable

I did try using an old dlink router before I got the extender but I needed to put a table in the hall just for it, and at least one router I checked out in the same price range at the time had no way to use it as an extender (another netgear I think).

I did consider adding a dlink aquila pro since it can be used like an extender but it only has 1 gigabit lan ethernet ports, I want something with a 2.5gbit to match my pc ethernet port speed.
