Other "loopholes" are being covered too, although I am not sure how effective some of them will be, for example, most of the main Social Media platforms have a minimum age of 13 but they don't enforce it as they just require a date of birth to be input which stops noone, if they don't come up with better age verification by next year they will be forced to. Currently there are loads of cases of 9-12 year olds being able to access self harm and suicide material on these platforms and in the future if this material is available to be seen by anyone under 18 these platforms will be helping us pay towards our national debt to the sum of huge fines.

I mean I'm all for more protection but given the track record of these companies leaking our details and not offering similar protection like banks offer then people aren't going to be happy about it at all about scanning their ID and give it to some website.
Excluding porn aside it also apparently affecting almost anything rated 18 too.

Maybe to stop teenagers buying Katana's? (for example), as far as I am aware currently this legislation does not effect general retail apart from stricter requirements on age verification for the purchase of certain 18 rated items such as Vape's, weapons and chemicals (again, for example), all retailers that sell these kind of items were required to age verify previously albeit to cover themselves, at least in the future there will have to be a more robust system in place that prevents or at least makes it more difficult for teenagers to order a dozen knives online and just fill in a fake DOB to do so.

I am not saying I agree with it all, just that I understand why it's being done ..... sort of. Not even sure if the retail part of it is actually in force yet, from what I can see it is mainly online safety and platforms at this stage but I might be wrong.

I'm not against the idea either, I just want the same level of security/protection similar to what banks offer to some degree.
The fact that American dating app Tea had a massive leak of IDs because they apparently stored it all in Firebase is a poor design decision if you ask me.
This is just going by own experience in using Firebase as well, its great for analytical stuff for crash logs but anything else I would be looking elsewhere.

If facebook or anything else asks me for ID, I'm going to tell them to go boil their heads and close my account.

yes, in 2010. it was awesome. i'm due for a revisit though

If you're willing to venture farther north, try Dunnottar and Urquhart here in Scotland, amongst many others.

I don't do any social media because in the most basic terms ......... I am anti social :) If you would include Whatsapp as social media then I just lied but thats how I stay in touch with friends, or of course I use the good old fashioned phone call.

Some of my friends on whatsapp go back 40+ years, if they are not on my list then they aint a good enough friend.

@Space Lynx ..... 15 years later it has become a lot more commercialised and a little less "authentic" so you might be a little dissapointed with a revisit, I would still recommend it to anyone who has never visited before but I have been 4 or 5 times over the last 30 years, the last being 2019 and I won't be going again, although I do only live a 50 minute drive away.

@Tatty_Two I remember it being fairly commercialized in 2010 as well, it's still a beautiful restoration of a castle none the less. I may not have time for it, we will see. my main goal is to see the castles in Wales, I have always wanted to see. I rented a car in 2016, but it was my first time driving in UK, and once I got to Wales it became a bit too hard for me, so I turned around and played it safe... still was a good rental though... I drove all the way border of Wales to Lincolnshire, and visited some cities there, then drove all the way back. Enterprise had upgraded my car to a fancy sports car too for free... so I felt like a baller the entire time. lmao thankfully I did not get a scratch on it, and even gave it a wash before i returned it.

that experience was only 4 days. in 2022 I rented a car for a total of 30 days in England... or something like that, and towards the end of those 30 days I felt very comfortable driving in the UK. just stick to speed limit, pay attn, learn different rules, like when you see those black stripes going around a steep turn, use common sense and slow down, etc. I find it fairly easy to drive in the UK honestly, left hand or right hand side, I can swap easily and my brain doesn't seem to mind at all.
